Thanks for the info can youu give me some more directions much thanks could use this on way to scotland sometime.
Spending the weekend at Ambleside Aire, it's great. Located in a quiet area of Ambleside, surrounded by trees and parkland. Easy to find with good, secure access. £6.00 for vans under 7 metres, £8.00 if over (24 hours), water on site, plans for elsan point to be built soon. No ehu, no caravans, no tents. Five minutes walk passed the church to Ambleside, loads of restaurants, chippy and cinema. Great base for the Lakes. Graeme the manager very pleasant chappy!

How many vans can it take, and can you book, or is it a turn up and see as in France.
Ohhhh!! Nice one!Does this mean that the U.K. is finally getting its act together, and taking a leaf from main land Europe. Lets hope so..not before time. Hopefully others will follow suit.
It is such a shame that this beautiful country of ours is losing out on a very good source of income, not just from U.K. vans, but from European motorhomers as well.
Hi folks,
1) Directions. Exit M6 at jct 36 and follow signs for Windermere then Ambleside. As you enter Ambleside and approach pier head/cafe, drop down onto the bottom road, passing info centre (on right) follow road until you hit the one way system. As you pull out into one way system IMMEDIATE left turn into MILLER FIELD car park, signed MOTORHOME CAMPING,
Honestly, you have to go around the one way system which ever way you go through Ambleside, you can't miss the sign for the aire.
2) I counted marked spaces for 13 vans, but I have no doubt they could take twice that if it got popular.
3) To book or check availability ring Graeme on 07708 310986
take it my thread on this aire is useless then as we have been there 3 months before this
Is there any hard standing ? Or if its all grass does it hold water or drain well . dont want to pay to get stuck.
I managed to find a pitch with some hard core under the wheels, but it is mainly grass. Speaking with Graeme today, he said he was aware he needed more stone and was working on that. There is a slight rise to all pitches from the entrance, so if you can get on a pitch you will not get stuck leaving. From what I experienced with our 3.5t+ this weekend I wouldn't worry.
