Tips: Water/waste; internet access etc

When hiding from the rain I've updated some tips on my site - see Tips Index for index.

Some new ones that may be of use is "Getting fresh water, and dealing with waste" - though may be more useful to newbies.

Also as I've been very successful getting free internet everywhere, including Germany, I've written a couple of docs on how this can be done.

There is also a bit on if you need an inverter or not.

Finally, my personal wild-camping sites are Our Aires and Wild camping Database and being constantly updated. Now available in CSV download, and I've got no problem them being used on here or integrated into any database, though WC does seem to be mainly UK specific at present?

A tip that works for us after washing our cooking and eating pots is to pour the contents of the washing up bowl through a large flour sieve, this catches nearly all the food particles and stops them from going into the waste tank. We then tip the sieve contents on to a piece of kitchen roll and dispose of, and then rinse out the sieve afterwards.

Good idea. Our sink is small so we wash up direct - so can't copy that.

Might get one of the USB Wifi extenders, didn't realize they made one for around twenty quid last time I looked at them they were nearer to a hundred . Have you tried using Vistumbler.net - Home I used this with my wifi dongle & a windsurfer parabolic reflector to get extra range. It shows you the percentage signal strength amongst other things & you can even have it speak it for you while you find the best position.

The £20 is fine - using it now with nothing in range on laptop normally.... Easily 1-200m and more if open air.

Vista stumbler isn't as good as net stumbler was, and now its just a front end for "netsh wlan show networks" command. You don't really need it IMO but I'm sure it'll work fine.

You can get bigger range cards for £80-100 but I've read mixed reports on how they work with Windows 7. The £20 works fine and also works with Backtrack 3.

Are you sure it is the same program as Vistumbler - not Vista Stumbler
I used Vistumbler V10 Vistumbler.net - Home for getting the best signal strength using my USB wif dongle with a windsurfer parabolic dish Ez-12 I find by moving it around I can make a weak unreliable connection into a good one.

I will probably send for one of the USB aerials direct from Solwise Wireless USB adapter with 9dBi dipole Antenna with outdoor weather proof plastic housing & get the bracket with the sucker on it.
