fun for 12£

Not wishing to resurrect any more threads about subs but it seems to me as soon as a site gets successful then they need to start charging as the running costs grow. It is an unfortunate situation, looks like I will have to stay with the smaller sites or maybe just have my own forum but not tell anybody where it is. Just joined the campsites on water forum I'm member number 9, I would have posted the link but then I'd have to kill you  as it might get too popular  & they will want subs.

Interesting when I did put the link on MHFun the link was removed & so were my posting privelages :rolleyes: maybe it was something I said.

Same happened to me.
The 'führer' overthere decides alone. I guess I won't have acces anymore tomorrow  (no loss; I was never easy with those RV and 5th wheel macho's)
Like someone said; 'sic transit gloria mundi '

I'm shut off from the Fun-site by now:
Belgian, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

Bye, bye. No hard feelings from my side.
Only a "stank voor dank" feeling.
I really had to delete some items in my 'favorites center' this will be the first.

Not so FUN now.

That ' campervan funsite ' ,i'm quite gutted that they asked for £12 sub to be in it!although a relatively new member i contributed into it,unlike many members who sit back and just read.
Why cant it be FREE for existing members ,or tomembers who have contributed into making itif they MUST have to start charging,so the existing members who have MADE the site get a payback for making it so,and the future members pay for the privalage of reading the old members helps and meanderings.......
Hope this ones not going the same ? when i'm at it,if something is asked of,by the powers that be,to help or send in stuff that will help other members, then at a latr date ,start charging for that privalage, and asking the contributers to ALSO pay...oops sounds the same as above (wildcamping sites)

It is a difficult thing as to whether or not to charge for a website
It seems to me that some-one gets a good idea for a site and then others try and emulate them
Good luck to them: It's free world allegedly, but there is only a finite amount of money to go around
"Times is 'ard Guv'nor" and for anyone one on a pension or low income there must be some difficult decisions to be made: For example, I am a member of the C&CC. Why, I have not been on a C&CC site for 3 years. It must be for the wonderful magazine then.
But back on topic
People who run websites should keep in mind that unless they have something new to offer they might be advised not to be an electron thief - that's the same as being an oxygen thief but more boring

This site is already there, it's £15/year to have full access on this site. I would not be surprised if Jim over at the fun site, who did give this site stick for charging, as seen how the fall out wasn't as bad as expected so decided to wipe egg of his face and start charging.

Looks like my privileges are revoked as well, it lets me log on but doesn't let me view anything. When I logged out I could view the pages for a while before I exceeded the allowed?? number. When I did look I find that some of my posts seem to have been selectively removed, I wonder if all my posts will be removed even the helpful ones I posted  Just found a post of mine & I have 'Account De-activated' under my name, well it's the first time I have ever been banned from any forum, I unlike some others have never deliberately posted anything with the intention of getting banned, even though I will argue my point I try to keep within the forum rules.

I know all forums have a notice saying that what you post becomes their property but in MHFun's case it was spawned from dissatisfied MHFacts members & one of their main points was that the site would be free, eating humble pie is a bit of an understatement. It also seems when a site starts to charge they somehow become more strict on what you can & can't post (just a personal observation )

I paid up as I like that site. I find all the three main sites useful and have made friends on them all. I like the fact they are all different. Its not exactly a lot of money is it? I just spent more than that on a bottle of wine and a few beers which will be gone in a few hours.

I was a tad peed off that it seemedto be done without any reasonable notice. Other sites have sent out emails to members. I will pay for this site as soon as I am properly computer fitted out.
Fun are using Paypal with no alternative.

Dont quite understand the moaning to be honest I'm new here, up to now
I have got or read or been informed by members knowledge from you.
This is a £15 supported site like the other two. I will no doubt shortly pay
to become a member sorry subscriber;) here.
I can get info first hand from been there, done it, got the badge members
from the three main sites.
I bet everyone has gained & saved money with them.
It cost a lot to keep sites running like here.

Have fun Safe driving. :)

Cryin

me also... cant understand all the crying :confused:as cheap at double the price...

Not crying, just refuse to be ripped off, so there are some things I never pay for regardless of the price, like camp sites....and web sites :D

So.. are you saying that we are been ripped off:confused:... as I dont think so... A lot of hard work has gone into making wildcamping...

In all fairness when these forums start up, they cost relatively little to run, but as they get more and more popular so does the workload and the internet hosting costs.

You cant run a forum for free, the software costs money.

WildCamping and MotorhomeFun are NOT commercial sites run for cash profit unlike some I could name.

If Phil on here was paid the minimum wage for all the hours that have been put in and the same for Jim on Fun, they would be very happy.

The discounts that have been negotiated for members over a year more than repay any subs that might be asked for plus all the help and tips that come with participation.

I agree. Its a no brainer for me. Its so valuable for me. I go on FUN, FACTS and here and my name barryd is the same on all. I have never gained so much knowledge and help for so little money across all the forums. On our first trip it was one of your chaps from JC that actually talked me through fixing the water pump on a remote Scottish island thanks to a post on the forum. Priceless. Happy Hippy. I love your attitude and approach to wild camping and your motorhome lifestyle but you cant always have everthing for free!

When Phil announced the £15 fee on here, I can remember some very dramatic announcements by members about how they were outraged and they flounced off to the `Fun` site. They had a lot of bad things to say on there. Under my `Fun` name I ripped the p!ss out of them. Leo even told me off for doing it. Remember that Leo. Yes, I admit, I am 747 on other sites.:D I put a smiley on the message. You know the one with a figure laid on his back and creased with laughter.

I wonder if they have the brass neck to crawl back on here. The tight fisted gits will probably go on to `Facts` as it is £2 cheaper than `Fun`.

Anyway, being a miserable old git, I never felt happy about being a `Funster`:o:o:o

Wastegayte. I always find that if the funsters are being too happy. A quick dive into some controversial thread on facts often brings back some much needed grumpiness.
