If it was me I would come off of the M5 at Gloucester and go through the forest of dean. You won't have to pay the severn bridge charge and you will also get to drive through the Forest of Dean which will be very pretty in early may with all the spring wild flowers coming out.

Or.... M6, M5, M50 to Ross-on-Wye then the A40 to Monmouth and A466 along the Wye Valley scenic drive to Tintern. 3 hours door-to-door to Warrington if that helps.
If you prefer a non-motorway route, depending on where you are in Cheshire, you could follow the A49 all the way to Ross, then A40 to Monmouth and as above. |
