Wifi on the road - antenna rebro

I've just bought a Solwise antenna. Does anyone know of dongle or other gadget that I can plug the USB cable in to to allow tablets and phones to use the wifi signal?

I'm aware I can set a laptop up to act as a rebroadcaster but I don't want to power a laptop from the leisure battery if I don't have to.

Your thoughts will be appreciated.

Solwise do a usb hotspot that connects to some of their aerials and gives you wifi in the van. I have one and it works well

That's the set up I use, and it generally works fine. Sometimes hangs, trying to connect, when a direct connection is instant.

The usbwifirpt-3000 has arrived and it looks the part - almost.

It's intended for use in a motor vehicle, as well as other places, and yet the only power supply unit is for 240 volt.

When I phoned to query, it was suggested that I fit an inverter and 240v sockets in my motor camper. That seems like a lot of expense and trouble to go to when a simple cigarette lighter socket device would do the job and could have been included.

Not impressed so far.

Yes, as it has a 12vdc input I had a spare cigar lighter 12v lead lying around and just used that.

I think they may sell them also, but not included. It may have been better and cheaper for them to include the 12v lead rather than the 240 mains adapter. Or both. :idea-007:

Both, or a suitable adaptor.

Having looked at it, it appears to be a device marketed by some other companies at different prices.

Less than whelmed.

I've got an antenna thanks.

It's a wi-fi router to put on the end of it that I need. I've got some ideas to explore.

You have me confused, this "The usbwifirpt-3000 has arrived and it looks the part - almost." is your router?

It's the router I've bought and am unhappy with because it doesn't include a means to power it from a 12v car socket despite being marketed as for use in motorcaravans etc.

Right, I understand now. My first Alpha36 came with a 12volt socket adapter and mains psu however has been purloined by son. Purchased a replacement which I received yesterday and it came like yours with a euro plugged transformer psu but I did still have the car socket adapter. I would imagine is would be easy enough to cut output cable from euro plugged transformer and fit car socket plug.

I dislike having to alter brand new kit, if for no other reason than it invalidates the warrenty. I think it's easier to send it back and find the right tool for the job.

Agreed. Had a look at advert for the unit I purchased and it specifically showed a Euro plug and not a Euro type psu. Have contacted supplier to find out why.
