Yes, but I would not wild camp there! Join Passport America for loads of good campsites at about $10 per night (check website)

People do stop in shopping malls and supermarkets (especially WalMarts) but this can be noisy and does not feel particularly safe.

Major generalization - but there are loads of drugged-up freeks and weirdos in the USA and I would not trust our traditional wild camping there.

Wildcamping in USA

Hi, l am new to this site, and l am just rummaging through the various threads and came across this one. We have just hired a motorhome in the USA and travelled in NY, NJ, NH, Maine, Mass, Connecticut, and back to NJ. l can't believe that you state there are some "drugged up freaks and wierdo's" as if they are roaming wholesale across the entire US! Nonesense! We stayed at campsites, car parks, national parks, even in a lay by once. Never ever did we feel threatened, frightened, or otherwise.
The American people are really friendly, and helpful. The cheapest campground we found was $28. the most expensive was $48. The towns and villiages in NY State are so nice and clean, and certainly not full of druggies! Don't paint all americans with the same brush. We would do it again in a heartbeat. We are still in touch with 3 families we met whilst camping. Go and do it! Its great!
We stayed 2 nights in the car park of the Niagara-Seneca casino, and the management welcome you with open arms! About 10 RVs were there each night. Some people have a bad impression of what is a great place the US is.
Craig.

yep , we stayed a year , stayed on a campsite the first night , never again anywhere from s.mexico to central canada

had the odd bad moment getting thrown out by the police because we were in a posh neighbourhood , but that's all ; even wildcamped in new york city , the police found us a place in their pound

ok , the place is full of crazies with guns [ 800, 000 people murdered with a gun in the 20th century ], but they won't bother you , just walk away if there is trouble

things we heard most often ?
welcome
gee , I love your accent
