In India they do exactly the same, in fact one day in Trivandrum I noticed a guy filling bottles & he was smoking a cheroot!!!

Them's a tough bunch have you ever seen then Blacksmithing, Welding, Melting metal for moulds. rebuilding batterys etc with bare feet
