A few nights ago we overnighted at Little Roodee car park and all was very nice and quiet. We stayed alongside the river watching the Ducks and Herons.
Here are a few pictures and the charges.

I can't quite see from your photo what time the barrier is locked at night, is it 12.30?

I park there in the wagon sometimes, the only problem is the bogs close about 5.30pm. I never pay, and the barrier is always open when I leave at 6am, so I'm not sure if it gets put down at all.
There's some nice pubs in the city centre too.

Did not bother us as to what time it shut as we were already in:D and we did not check if it did close.
Pretty sure that it is supposed to close at 2230 hrs.
Also we did not check out the toilets as we use our own:D

Has anybody been here recently is it still motorhome friendly

I drive past there a couple of times a wk and there's always one or two motorhomes overnighting in there so i'd say still ok to park there. Would add after 6pm you'd get a riverside parking spot even if your there early and have to move to get one!

We've stayed there lots of times, our daughter was at University in Chester and we've carried on going back at least 4 times a year, never had any problems.

I live near Chester, Parking on Roodee park is good, very handy for Chester races except may races when taken over by fairground.

Hello

we are planning on spending the night at Roodee. I am on crutches so just wondering how far it would be to hobble to a decent but not too busy pub where they do food?

Also it says you have to leave by 9am..is this true or can you pay for a ticket to stay longer? would like a bit of a lie in on a Sunday :-)

If you walk with the river to your right it is only a few hundred yards to Bridge street, if you turn left under the walls the nearest pub is The Bear and Billet Bear and Billet, Chester - Restaurant Reviews - TripAdvisor (http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g186233-d1063115-Reviews-Bear_and_Billet-Chester_Cheshire_England.html) Ive not been in for a long time but it gets good reviews. There are plenty of other eateries if you continue up the hill towards the center of town including a very nice Thai restaurant on the left just before the traffic lights http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g186233-d1464295-Reviews-Ruan_Orchid-Chester_Cheshire_England.html . If you continue along the river there are also a number of other places, a mix of restaurants and cafe.

Also the traffic wardens can be a bit eager in Chester, we never chance it and usually nip out and pay for another ticket in the morning to stay a bit longer.

We have just stayed here over new year! Great spot right besides the river Dee.

Played it safe and paid 5.80 for each night as we arrived in the afternoon and this is the charge for six hours +

So thanx to this site we had a great new year! :cool1:

Yes but within reason, it is my local town and have enjoyed many nights there but only ever one or two at a time and make sure we pay the correct prices.

There lies the problem.

Within reason to some people including ones on here is a week or two and then start whinging when it gets stopped!

My understanding would be that you can stay for as long as you pay the appropriate parking charge. So if you want to stay after 9.00am then you need to buy another ticket and make sure that you are parked in accordance with the regulations, ie within a bay or pay for the number of bays that you are occupying. It gets pretty expensive if you need two bays at 25 for 24 hours but you are right in the city centre. Luckily there are no residential properties close by but I agree with Graham that we could easily lose this facility if it gets abused by long stay usage. Don't forget to check on your dates as well as the car park is closed down for fairground use a couple of times a year and gets very busy on race days.

Off to Chester next Monday for a couple of nights (26th Oct), can you still stay and sleep overnight? Was about to ring the local authority but thought I would try here first.
Regards,
Paul

We were there in August. Lovely night, lots of MHs.
The Zoo is brilliant.
We'll go back again.
