Excellent level site just beyond dam above visitor centre. Steepish, loose, bendy track down but easily managed in our 6.5m van with overcab - so nae probs for smaller vans. Can see now why van conversions popular for these sort of places!

Spent Sat night in scenic, peaceful bliss - and no midges!! Dog loved it too. Attached pic - if it works!

Next morning continued along single-track road past dam and towards Glen Lyon - very scentic route - found a few more good places to wildcamp that we'll visit later in the year.

Noticed in the Summer 2009 edition of the NTS member's magazine that:

"the centre has been closed all year and is likely to be demolished (my bold). Its contents are at Lynedoch in Killin. Two rangers and a part time ecologist will be based in Killin, to continue our nature conservation work."

This is part of their cost saving measures. Wonder what will happen to the carpark and if anything will be built in its place.

Spent last night there, same spot as you have circled.
Now, where the van in the foreground is, is a Portakabin and a separate cabin (Portaloo) locked of course.
Today we continued along the road through Glen Lyon.
MAGIC !!!!!!!!!

Hi

I only live just up the road in Stirling, but find Ben Lawers to be a good spot not to far away for getting away from it all for a night!

Plenty of hills in the area. I'm the webmaster for our local mountaineering club, so if you like pics of Scottish hills, take a look at our gallery: The Ochils Mountaineering Club - Gallery (http://www.ochils.com/component/option,com_gallery2/Itemid,87/)

Scottish West Coast (03-12/10/08) (http://www.veletron.com/php/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=13762)
Wales (27/03/09 - 05/04/09) (http://www.veletron.com/php/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=14643)

There's another wild camping spot near a dam at the top of Glen Lyon - i'll post it up in another thread.

Nigel
