There are two excellent wildcamps on the outskirts of Keswick:

1.To the west of the town, as you approach on the A66 from Cockermouth, turn onto the B5289 and then within half a mile turn sharp right onto a local cul-de-sac. At the end of the track there is room for several vans (five the night we were there) on the banks of the River Derwent (which connects Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite), on the route of the Cumbria Way and with superb views of the Skiddaw range. It is level, quiet, free and has no restrictions.
2.To the east of town, follow the signs to Casterigg Stone Circle (access to which is free) and opposite the circle is a roadside parking area which is quiet, free, level and with no overnight restrictions. Superb all-round views (and ice-cream van during the day in summer!)
