Spent a nice quiet night here 53.293545, -3.840651 - Google Maps (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=53.293545%2C%20-3.840651&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&rlz=1R1DVFA_enGB349&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wl)
Next to the car park there is a launching area & as long as you keep the area clear so that boats can be launched the harbour master didn't seem to bothered.

Nice one,

We stayed at the campsite above the hill overlooking Conwy earlier this year. Walked the path over Conwy mountain, down to Dwygyfylchi. Then crossed the A55, went under the railway track, then back up the beach & headland back to Conwy. We walked past the carpark & I can confirm the location..A couple of vans were parked up there, about 7pm. Brilliant place to stay.

I would stay at these places, but my wife gets the jitters over what she says is illegal. Ho Hum, Bother.

Dogseal.

We went to Conway Marina last week and here are the photographs showing the NO Overnight parking sign and great views.

We also took our quiet genny which was very useful for recharging the batteries after having hot air blow heating on for a considerable time.
I very much doubt that solar panels would have sufficed.

We did not see any other Wilders, a few vans called in, but were staying on camp sites.
We saved about 100 by wilding for the week.

Hi Grath

Did you actually stay on the marina car park?

We went last weekend to 'suss out' the spot and we did not realise that the Conwy 'Feast' was on - they had turned the car park into a temporary park and ride!! We were directed to park in a little space and the 'parking operatives' could not understand why I was reluctant to put my 6.7m MH in a row with cars and they were then going to stack more in the centre! They refused to let me straddle 2 spaces in the middle or overhang my backside over the verge - they had no idea!!!! So we left smartish and ended up parking next to the entrance barrier to the marina for a couple of hours to have a look around Conwy.

We later moved on to Caenarfon and thanks to your thread earlier we ambled over past the golf club and parked up on the picnic spot with a fabulous view over the straits.

This was to be our very first truly 'wild' night. We are happy being self sufficient and have used many aires and FP in France and have used MH pub stopovers here but have never had the courage to go completely wild!

We had a peaceful night and woke to a sharp frost with beautiful clear skies. It was idyllic and a great experience. We had one other van for company which I found very reassuring - so thank you to the family with 2 young boys in the Chausson - whoever you are!!

Thanks for your recommendations everyone - keep them coming!:D

Hi Ownedbycollies.
Yes it was the same car park that they use for the feast.
We left on the day that the feast started and I do know what you mean about cars everywhere.
We left at about lunchtime and had we stayed any longer, we may not have had room to get out. They were going to park a car right next to us and if they had we would not have got out as there was already a row in front of our van with not enough space for us to pull forward and swing out.
The Caernarfon spot is pretty good, is it not?

I'm probably being really stupid but are the 'no overnight parking' signs for the marina car park? If so, did you just ignore them?? Is anyone bothered? Can you just pretend that you thought it was for caravans and tents??

It looks a great spot and we vowed to return another time but as novice 'wilders' I think we would move on if we saw the signs.

The signs were as per the photo that I posted above.
You have to use your discretion and go with instinct.
I spoke to a couple of locals, boatowners and a motorhomer and they told me that it should be ok at this time of the year.
I don't know if I would stay during high season and if ever I got a feeling that I would be in the way, I would move on.
Incidentally, it is a boat launching park and not a car park as the signs indicated and cars were going into this park and not into the one that they should have, however 2 wrongs don,t make a right.

Just noticed OwnedbyCollies that it was last weekend that you went to Conway.
We left Conway last Saturday at about midday.
Our Tramp was parked up immediately before the porta cabin on the right.
Just before we left a van came in and parked just past the porta cabin, but I don't think it was your make.

There is a spot just outside the car park entrance, seen here 53.29364, -3.84013 - Google Maps (http://tinyurl.com/3y3evd4), where you can stop.

In fact, the Streetview picture shows it in use!

Yes, we though of that spot and it is OK, but not as good as the car park and you may even need ear plugs when a gale is blowing as was last week due to the halyards twanging.
Also car that goes into either car park will pass you by with only a few feet to spare and the fishermen and a few others come in at all times of the day and night.

Hi Grath

We spotted a van by the portacabin (next to a boat trailer) and commented that that appeared to be a good spot!! The operatives were trying to park us on the left, nose into the bollards so we couldn't even overhang the grass. We wanted to go over to the other side but they were having none of it!!! We have a Burstner Nexxo.

We arrived about 10.30am, did a little Reginald Molehusband impression in and out of the car park space and then went off in a huff after paying 2 for nothing! We tucked into the dead end at the other side of the marina by the entrance barrier to the members car park and spent a very pleasant couple of hours in the town.

That was our van and we were out walking on the dunes.
I know the spot by the marina entrance as we went down there to have a look.
Pity it was so busy as all week it had been so empty with only us and about half dozen cars. No other vans overnighted except one on the road for one night.
We parked on the far side with a sea view.
By the way, the parking guys were going to park a car between our van and the trailer and were about to do so until I told them that it would block our van in.

Hope you didn't park there - Unless of course you do drive a 'mobile home' and not a motor caravan.

The other night we had about 25 school age teenegers making a lot of noise and than we heard our step make a little niose that we reconise as some one either sitting or standing on it. I was getting up to check it out whem the door handle was turned, but it was locked!!
We had daughters big dog with us at the time and it let out one hell of a deep woof!!
They ran away into the darkness, I went outside and checked that everything was ok and it was. Just then a plain police car arrived as they had received a couple of calls, not from us I might add and they told me that it was the first time in about one year that they have had such an incident.
It did unsettle us a little as you never know what is in their minds and if they thought that it was us that called the police they could have retaliated with spray cans or whatever.
We decided to move on as we would rather sleep better trhan have one eye open all night.
So just a warning to be alert in this area.
Anyway we have just returned home from 7 nights wilding and what great weather and how cheap the week was.

I must add that we have spent quite a few nights here in the past and on this trip and all without incident and we will not let this put us off!
