There is a little beach on the South East side of the lake. You need to open the gates and cross a light railway to access it but it seems well used by campers, fishermen and motorhomes.

Has anybody overnighted at the far end of the large car park where the wardens are?... Often wondered if we would get away with it?...

I recently visited this part of Bala lake, to sail rather than to stay overnight. There was certainly one van that had overnighted when I arrived in the morning. I did see all the signs too but I interpreted them as relating to the more formal parking area, rather than the rough ground further along. Maybe someone can try it. :)

There's actually quite a few places you can wildcamp along the lane that runs south of the lake, laybys and car parks, including some with toilets. Stayed there loads of times and never had a problem.

Yes we stayed here a few weeks ago, at the carpark near the boating place. We arrived about 4 and there were quite a few vans but they all left. We went for a walk to village and decided to stay. We parked just on the edge of the carpark next to where the rough area begins ( right next to' no overnight parking' sign. Another van came later and asked if we were stopping and also decided to stay but they parked further away on rough bit. No problems all night. Around 9 in morning warden came and said we needed a ticket after 9am to park, we said we weren't stopping and he said' you haven't parked overnight have you?' and we said 'No we've just arrived'. He went and spoke to the other camper too. We had a look at the other carpark further down the east side of lake which also said no overnight camping but it was very secluded and I doubt anyone would even see you in there.

Thanks Canalsman, I just checked on Streetview, there appears to be a chain locking the gate on the other side of the railway track..??

Yes I saw that too - perhaps someone local can check it out for us :)
