I was down there yesterday funnily enough visiting a patient that lives in Slimbridge village so I thought I would drive down to sus it out . The car park is quite big and there were two motor homes parked in the top L/H corner, there is an even larger parking area on grass next to it I couldnt see why you couldnt over night here . There is a nice camp site next to the swing bridge over the canal in the grounds of the Tudor Arms pub. I have stayed on the dock side at Sharpness and there is a nice place just a bit North up the M5 at J13 alongside the Stroudwater canal , you can see it from the roadas you drive towards Stroud. If you are refering to the spot just off the M5 j13 I am down there again on Tuesday I could get you the co-ordinates , but if you want to go before that come off at J13 and start to folow the road to Stroud, this is called Eastington, as soon as you are on the Stroud road look to your right and you will see the canal ,you can park on this side of it but also on the other side ,get out and have a walk around and see which suits you, its quite popular for people breaking their journey when heading south. The car park at Slimbridge is free,I would think that if you arrived early evening you could overnight with the intension of visiting the centre in the morning, the pub is only five minutes up the road ,I popped in there last summer and found some nice real ales.
