Although it is a nuisance parking in the daytime on the coast , because of parking charges .we found several places inland for overnight.
Next to Blackgang Chine there is a National Trust car park.
South of Bembridge follow signs to Culver Down,There is a width restriction here but we saw larger vans than ours come along the road. There are several National Trust car parks suitable for overnight with good views.
We saw several Campervans parked up in Ryde at night time. Also on Tescos' car park.

as you go out of ryde heading towards tesco you go up a hill, left bend and a mini roundabout. Go left at this roundabout follow the road untill it forks, take the left fork. You come down another hill and find yourself on the seafront faceing portsmouth. its free to park here although some of the larger motor homes may find it a bit small. hope this helps :O)

also freshwater bay on the way to the needles is amazing ;)xxx

Just had a week in March on IOW. The lovely chalkdown south coast is easy for unofficial overnights.
First car park on left coming out of Freshwater along the coast road (military road) after the chalk cutting. Flat and spacious with wonderful chalk views. No signs to worry about. had a peaceful night.

Just above St Catherines lighthouse there is a small NT car park with no signs. the access road is narrow and 0.4miles long. 6 inchthick tree branches above but our 3m van was (just) fine. Nothing higher though or permanent sunroof!

Several CP's along the coast but have signs saying no overnight. Lotsof CP's inland on the downs would be fine though. Beautiful sea views on the coast road during the winter and spring though can't be beaten.
