Hi Folks

This has probably already been done on here but just wanted to share with you our recent 4 day weekend trip to the lakes. This was a boys trip so the first night was spent at the Horse and Farrier pub in Threlkeld 4 miles east of Keswick. I emailed them and asked for permission for our two vans to park in exchange for us having a few beers. No Problem they replied.

2 pubs within staggering distance and a good night was had by all

It looks like the Portinscale road is back open again and nicely resurfaced although we didnt stay for long a couple I was talking to said there had been some trouble with yobs there. Dont know if its true.

We moved on to Crummock Water and Buttermere. There are some great spots along the 2 lakes all the way to the Honister pass. We stayed right next to the lake here

At the edge of Buttermere village there is a car park and I saw a Kontiki sneaking in there as it was getting dark but just outside the top of the village there is what looks like free parking at the start of the Newlands pass which is 100 yards down the hill to the two pubs The Bridge Hotel and the Fish. We did email the Fish hotel and were told it was closed for referbishment so we couldnt come and stay. It looked open to me but as they told us they were closed we didnt bother going in.

A cracking break although far too much beer was drunk. The stars over crummock water around midnight were just breathtaking.

Cheers
Barry

Hi

Its one of the ones on the map. I just checked. Im going to try a link

Google]Google]Google Maps (http://maps.google.com/maps/svpw?source=earth&url=http%3A%2F%2Fmaps.google.com%2Fmaps%3Fll%3D54. 56270200%2C-3.29691800%26layer%3Dc%26cbll%3D54.56270200%2C-3.29691800%26cbp%3D%2C%2C%2C%2C&panoid=Ij1T4YLD4OJQ7kcxDhOGqw) Maps

Not quite sure how to embed the link but it sort of works. As you come down the shore of Crummock water from the North (Lorton and Cockermouth end) there are two spots on the left hand side. This is the first one.

Cheers
Barry
