Two miles south of Hawkshead there is a parking area next to Esthwaite Water which is used by local fishermen and is signed simply as a Long Stay Car Park (with No Meters or Height Barriers). 54.350351 N, 2.984784 W There is ample room for parking and an unrivalled lakeside vista to enjoy over your morning coffee.

Theres a sign nailed to a tree which faces the lake (doh!) and says no overnight parking. Its not easy to see.
We've stopped there a few times for a brew. Great spot.

Hi guys and... facing the Lake !!!!???? :boat: I don't think that my van is watertight enough to attempt the direct crossing from Sawrey - besides which - the Memsahib doesn't travel very well over water and my Dub is not equipped with Navigation Lights - so I shall just stick to the more conventional road approach and claim that I couldn't see the 'wood' for the trees if I am ever challenged. Just a thought though... I wonder if that sign is aimed more at the leisure/pleasure craft fraternity? The thinking behind that is, quite possibly, that the Anglers who fish there (check out all the bods on the GM Pics), would be hampered in the pursuit of their Sport if it were to become an unofficial 'Marina Stopover' ??? (That sounds like a female Russian Tennis Player doesn't it? - but you know what I mean).
