We found a guarded Car Park in Riga which is actually 0.5km closer to the city then the 'Official' Riga City Camping and 1LVL per night vs 17LVL for the campsite.

Obviously no facilities, but water available at the nearby Statoil.

GPS: 56.95249, 24.08230

Might be of use to someone (first post in the Latvia forum too!)

The Riga City Camping has moved! It is now on Kipsalas (n56degrees 57' 23" E24 degrees 04'42") Very efficient - security on the door all facilities, large site but very busy. They also arrange city tours. Fee for 2 people, campervan, elec and wifi was 16Lat.

We have found Latvia delightful, much more attractive than Estonia though we think perhaps we made a mistake by coming down the coast of Estonia - maybe the interior is better. Latvia is great there seem to be several laybys off the major roads - some are marked as parking places. We stopped for lunch outside Riga beside a river/lake N56degrees 57.490 E 23 degrees 49.992 I am sure we could have spent the night there - a bit close to the road but what do you expect from a layby. Later on down the A10 we turned off to Kermeri onto the P128 drove through Lapmezciems and Ragaciems then we saw a parking off to the right - it said it was a paying park but on 23rd August there was no sign of anyone to pay. We parked - walked down to the beach - and spent an undisturbed night on the park.

On the way down to Riga we stopped at Salagriva parked up overlooking the river N 57 degrees 45.363 E 24 degrees 21.510. Again we were not bothered by anyone and had a quiet night.

We are now beside the river Dauvagas at as Acsi site just beyond Koknese N 56 36' 26.2" E 25 29' 58.8". Charming owners no real slopping out facilities but we were told we could use the loo - luckily we were not too full! Otherwise there is elec, wifi, water, loo, shower and a lovely view of the river - even fishing off the pontoon. All down the E22 we have noted good sized laybys and we stopped for lunch just before Saulkalne in a parking place (n 56 50.621 e24 23.248) - again near the river and I am sure we could have stopped there the night. So wildcamping seems to be quite easy but emptying loos, filling with water etc presents a bit more of a problem it seems you really need to find a campsite. One more thing - LPG is very easy to find. Hope this helps somebody.
