View Full Version : 'twixt Canterbury and Folkestone...

Hi folks,

It ain't a wildcamping site, but it's probably the next best thing...

Fir Tree Farm Campsite, Rhodes Minnis (type CT4 6XR into Google Maps or satnav).

10 miles south of Canterbury, 6 miles north-west of Folkestone/Dover, off the B2068 (Stone Street).

If coming from Canterbury, turn left at the Jet Garage (Six Mile Garage) and follow the road through the forest until you come to a staggered crossroads. Turn right and carry on to Rhodes Minnis (half a mile). At the crossroads with the red telephone box, turn left (White Horse Lane), then take the first left (Chapel Lane) - signposted to the Village Hall and Methodist Church (don't worry about the width restriction sign - you're not going that far along!) The farm is just along on the right. The sign says 'Caravan and Camping Club Members Only' - but they're not worried about that, providing you don't look like you're going to set up a rave.

8 for the night with electrical hook-up (5 without, I think), flexible about leaving times (midday if it's busy, but it doesn't often get full). There's water on site, plus facilites for loo emptying, but nothing else. The campsite is a small field attached to the farmhouse - which is bang in the middle of nowhere! It's the quietest night's sleep I've had for ages. The only sounds were the distant baaing of sheep, birdsong... and a rooster crowing from somewhere.

Ideal for topping up the tank and recharging the battery. There's a nice pub in the village, too - less than a mile's walk.
