Looking to do a 10 day tour around the Loire, starting & finishing at Roscoff. We have a 7mtr van.
Is the north bank or south bank the best to use or just switch over, like to do a few Chateau's also.
All help appreciated.

Cheers

Hi, it all depends on your wish list. If you start at Angers & meander along the north bank until you get to Saumur you will find plenty of overnight spots.
Just east of Saumur at Candes saint Martin, the Loire splits, the northern branch goes to Tours & onto Blois etc.The southern branch to Chinon & all points south. Plenty of parking spots & chateaus along both branches. We prefer the Anger - Tours –Blois route, but both are pleasant.

A couple of miles from Saumur is an aire that was a former campsite,

Plenty of room, free water.Off the D947 (east side of town

If you want to park in town during the day follow sign to chateau where there is a good car park with views. Walk down steps into town

Places we stayed this summer are:

Next to lake about 30 mins walk from Angers centre - also possible to get tram in from quite nearby

The Aire near Saumur mentioned by jann

Riverside parking near the troglodyte village of Turquant

Opposite Chateau de Chinon on the River Vienne (Loire tributary)- not an ideal spot as it's near residential housing - if you get there early or late then you might get into carpark on other side of river but its a tight squeeze round the trees

Google Maps (http://maps.google.co.uk/?ll=47.484472,1.182908&spn=0.002498,0.005681&t=h&z=18&vpsrc=6)
Opposite Chaumoint sur Loire with good view of Chateau. Last year "No Camping Car " signs went up on the Chaumont side of the river so we stayed opposite but there were still a lot of vans staying on the Chaumont side.

Riverside spot about 15 miles from Meung sur Loire where there is a large Motorhome dealer if you need parts - as we did.

Chateau du Breze, about 8 miles from the Loire with large free carpark outside

Excellent aire with free electricity near Montrichard on the river Cher (Loire tributary)

Enjoy - it's a great place to go motorhoming.
