The local council has already started putting the Christmas lights up in my town. I really need to get away from here.

Christmas started to go on sale in many supermarkets in this country in September! At this rate, the end of one Christmas will start to merge with the beginning of the next. When we overwinter in Spain at least they have the decency not to start all this rubbish until December. :mad1:

when i first went to portugal years ago,the only sign of xmas was a branch in a pot in a supermarket with local produce hanging on it,including peppers and tins of sardines,and very festive it looked too.as i had 4 kids it must have saved me a few quid,now of course,its just like here-progress at last

My father had a record called "Merry Christmas, you suckers" which really summed up the commercialism of it all, and had wonderful lines like "The Christmas card racket will cost you a packet," and "The cards are so clever but nothing whatever to do with the subject in hand" and there was definitely something about "singing White Christmas as early as June"!!

Whatever Christmas meant in days gone by, it now seems to be an enormous Shopping Fest, and the religious side has almost sunk without trace. I would be quite happy to see it abolished, so then we wouldn't be offending anyone whose religious views differ from ours, and who find the idea of a CHRISTMAS tree offensive. We'd also save a packet of money spent on unwanted gifts and trash, which could be used for more worthwhile things like fuel for our motorhomes!! :mad1:

I used to love Christmas once; now I can't wait for it to be over!!

Found it on Youtube - ENJOY!!

Which ones? 2016 or 2020?

Likewise but even there you can't fully escape it all. In Morocco one Christmas the local market had a stall selling nothing but inflatable Santas (never saw anyone buying them though) and on Christmas morning I walked out of the hotel and almost got mown down by a bicycle trailing a cartload of live turkeys! :)

We wish you a merry Christmas,
We wish you a merry Christmas,
We wish you a merry Christmas,
And a Happy New Year!

Refrain
Good tidings we bring for you and your kin;
We wish you a merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Now bring us some figgy pudding,
Now bring us some figgy pudding,
Now bring us some figgy pudding,
And a cup of good cheer!

Refrain

We all like our figgy pudding;
We all like our figgy pudding;
We all like our figgy pudding;
With all its good cheer

Refrain

We won't go until we get some
We won't go until we get some
We won't go until we get some
So bring it out here

Refrain

We wish you a merry Christmas,
We wish you a merry Christmas,
We wish you a merry Christmas,
And a Happy New Year!
And a Happy New Year!
