At Weymouth we saw a group I'd heard about, but never seen live. If you get the chance to get to one of their gigs while they are on tour I can highly recommend it they are at Liverpool next weekend. Galley Beggar are going to be the next Fairport/Steeleye Span and they are a lot younger, so it's good to see younger people carrying on the tradition.

I once danced with Maddy Prior at a gig in Birmingham in the early 70's when she got everyone up. Galley Beggar did the same at Weymouth. Here's a link to some of their music.

I sing this to my wife when I'm in the dog house.

Great words.

 One of my all time ever favourite bands, I saw them live last year and they were as good as when I first saw them at a Heineken Free Music festival in approximately 1993 at Portsmouth I think.

Three of their best from the classic "Waiting for Napoleon" :

The Men They Couldn't Hang The Colours (2) - YouTube (http://youtu.be/CNKLBwAcP04)

While on the subject of Kate - my fave is Kate Rusby - Underneath The Stars (live at the Cambridge Folk Festival 2005) 480p - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6fy2wNgbW0) this one.

Have seen her at the Shrewsbury Festival, so talented and modest too. After Peter Maxwell Davis resigns as Master of The Queen's Music this year, Kate should get the job!

After a folk gig in Sheffield we were in the pub discussing folk. I mentioned that Kate was from not far off, and a real Yorkshire lass. A guy at the bar turned and said "Aye, she might be real Yorkshire, but she's from the posh end of Barnsley!"

 This is the band I'm looking forward to seeing on Sun eve at the festival TARRAS (http://www.tarrasmusic.com/)

A friend introduced me to their music and I saw them live a couple of months ago and they are great. Some traditional acoustic tunes and some modern folk tunes with drums. Plus they are a Cumbrian band which is good, local to me (up here, 30 miles away is local).

OK for a folk night but I don't think Steeleye Span have much cause for concern.

Took the better half to the Barbican to see the Unthanks with the Brighouse and Rastrick Band. What a night. I don't think anyone that night didn't laugh and cry in turn.

We saw them with a good sound engineer and they were a lot better and a year later. They are on tour at the moment.

Another of my fave bands at the moment, I saw them live at the weekend, one of the best things to come out of Cumbria for a long time, not the best recording but I couldn't find any others on YouTube Tarras at the Dent Folk Festival 28th June 2009 - YouTube (http://youtu.be/jMcltkqW0mg)

Off to Dent on Friday for four nights :lol-053:

Looks like the weather is going to be like Glastonbury again but wellies are the footwear of choice in Dendale anyhow. And it does say the village is twinned with Royston Vasey on the village sign...

Thirty or so guest beers again:rolleyes2:

It's just down the road from me and I've been debating whether to go or not. Where are you stopping? Cumbrian mud is plentiful at the moment, here's some pics of the festival I was at (only about 10 miles from Dent) at the weekend...

Hiya Whitevanwoman

Going a bit daft and stopping on Laning. Expensive I know but it gives us the hook up and the opportunity to fall over the wall on to the festival site.

Last year was a good do, if a 'little' muddy. The last band on the saturday night are the Dog Roses and were spot on for that time of night, got the place jumping.

Really nice festival.

I haven't decided yet what to do this weekend, depends on the weather. I may come for a day or I may come and stay over for a night or even 2. If I do, I'll have a wander round the caravan site and see if I can spot a WC sticker. So if you see a strange woman with a big black dog wandering staring at windscreens, that'll be me!
