Hi there

Getting itchy feet in between trips, and wanting to try out new BBQ and give the leisure battery a bit of a workout.

Can anyone recommend somewhere to wild camp for one night only (probably a Saturday) which is:-

1) fairly close to North London (say within 50 miles)
2) ideally (but not necessarily) located next to some water (sea, river or lake)
3) nice and quiet
4) suitable to have a bbq, before sitting back with a few beers and watching the stars
5) probably would arrive around 5pm one Saturday and leave by 10am on the Sunday

Thanks

Ian

Try on google maps. High Beach, Essex IG10, United Kingdom. Follow high beach road up untill you find the grassy area with the whitish looking car park. There is a place there opposite the Hotel with all you require. Sorry I don't know how you get the co-ordinates for it. It has no restrictions and the hotel is good for meals etc.

I've PM'd Canalsman about this thread as these sites aren't on our database of POI's

If you've got any more, please share with us all!!

I thought I was sharing with all! This isn't a private message. I have only just discovered how to do it.

Be wary about the Epping Forest ones. I believe there are bye law issues about staying the night and the Epping Forest Rangers are quite often floating around.

Thanks everyone for the advice.

I like the idea of High Beach (only 20 mins from home) but am a bit worried about these Lone Rangers coming round and moving me on!!

What do you think Bopper? Have you stayed there lots without problems? I am assuming you mean the car park which you kind of drive past the hotel then double back on yourself to the left - is that right?

Also, Jonas, when I put your coordinates into Google I ended up in Mill Lane near Cambridge? I did manage to find "Dungey Road, Beds" but couldn't see an obvious place to park up. Could you help a bit more please?

Thanks again all

Regards

Ian

There are a couple of other wildcamping spots on the POI database so it may be worth having a look at those see if any of them are suitable.
