Hi. I'm in Brittany at the moment and am considering going to the aire at Quiberon as advertised in the aire book. From previous experience I've realised that some of the aires are either no longer there or have moved since the book was published. Has anyone been there recently? then maybe stop off at La Rochelle then onto the one at Mimizan? do many English hit these spots? I'm a beginner surfer and would like to meet up with like minded travellers. Also, am I allowed to tell everyone that I can offer my services as a hairdresser ..??!! :) ( thought I could put a poster up in my camper window ) hope I don't get banned for saying that. Apologies in advance if I've broke the rules! new to all this.
Thanks very much for any advice.

For up-to-date info on aires, try CAMPINGCAR-INFOS (http://www.campingcar-infos.com) . The latest info for Quiberon is that there are 3 aires (two at 5 euros per night and one at 7). Have agood trip.

just go into a leclerc super market look in the book shop .they are bound to have the latest aires book infact possibly loads of different ones and only a few euro. or look on the internet.
if its surf you want then go to a surf shop and buy the european storm riders guide . they will have it in english and french i would think . it shows you all the best surf spots ./ its published by low pressure publications.
i bet the surf shop in quiberon as it authentic surf shop. 48 ave du general de gaulle.
you will pass so many good surf breaks you may never get to mimizan.
can i come as well have the book here .ha ha .
you could head for la torche just a little north of pennarch . thats real good surf .
and look for atlantic surf shop route de la torche ,29120 plomeur .
happy travels and catch the good ones .

I have visited this area many times over the past 5 years in a 7m van and found whilst it is very busy during August time there are still places to wild camp or some aires to use. The aire known as Area cerci de Kerne off the D186A is popular with surfers providing waste and water facilities for a small fee although gets very busy.
Some vans park at Port Haliguen itself along the main harbour wall next to the boat moorings although this is only tolerated for a night or two per van by local Police. There is an excellent lay-by on the way into Quiberon on the D768 opposite the monument des kerthostin (war memorial). I met some German surfers who were staying at the airfield at Quiberon though I have not used there myself.
In general I have found motorhomes are accepted there overnight as long as they do not park directly on the sea front blocking the views from residential properties and whilst I feel this is fair enough there are some who still feel they should and can overnight where they want !
All places can be seen on google earth. Have a good trip !!!

thanks everyone for the helpful replies. hopefully I'll gather enough info that I can be of help to other campers in the future. Just hoping the sun keeps shining! I have to get in a few lessons and some practice on the surf too. Had a lesson in Mawgan Porth at easter... only had one because the wind took the board and bashed me in the ribs and couldn't move for ages! I've only just got the wetsuit off ..... so I don't class myself as a surfer, I just wear the gear haha!! but I wont give up trying! really looking forward to it now.
yes vwalen... anyone welcome!! its only me and the dog on this next leg.

thanks again

mine's 12 now and going grey, goes everywhere with me so he's well travelled.. looks pretty wore out though ha! he probably wonders what we're going to do next! I see you're a vw mechanic? i've got a 78 T2 and was going to travel to Greece in it but everyone laughed and so I decided against it. still would like to give it a go though. I met Pete (great lad) the Kingsurf owner while working in the Alps a few years back, turned out he was from my home town and friends with my son and daughter...yep,small world.
Would love to go to portugal and get the winter sun but have to be back in the UK in September to work.. aaargh!! food for thought though. I have a friend who went to morocco and portugal last year, sounded great, so thats next on the list I think! I'm not getting any younger so maybe I'll stick to bodyboarding haha!
is it still raining in the UK?

The aire is brilliant and within a few minutes of a beach. Two things worth knowing are that you can only pay by card, which slows everyone down and the only water supply is metered and you need a garden hose click connector, I had to play around with connectors to get something which worked and others had a similar problem. The site is larger, has a counter on the entrance which tells you how many pitches are left and we would certainly go there again.

love the photos.. wish I could get that far with my VW.. I used to joke and say that for someone who wanted to travel, I didnt get far as it wouldnt leave the estate sometimes haha! i've managed to get the engine in pretty good shape but in turn the body work has been neglected. Its been in storage for the last two years while I went away. Got it out in May and started up and passed the MOT first time , so my daughter has taken over and driving it about. So, still in Brittany at my sisters, I've had invites to meals and parties which I couldnt refuse of course!! off to get a macdonalds now and then hopefully set off in the next few days! So what do you do there in the winter? do you work out there?

hi .no just keep warm .go surfing . playing in the sand etc .love it in the desert . or up the mountains .
there is so much to see and do. dont work there .well have been known to spend a few weeks working in a freiends garage out in erfoud in maroc .or helping some of the fossil gather,s get their finding back to their base. only for fun though. have helped another mate in spain in his garage as well . again fun . its how you sometimes meet the locals . its nice to sometimes just have a meal at the end of the day with them all . nice to have friends every where.
so hows your plans . are you up for meting in november and going off on an adventure then. or will you be exhausted with your own adventure . cucumber sandwiches and lashings of ginger ale always welcome. ha ha
nearly bought a place near plougonver not far from guingamp .a few years ago. had friends near callac . but decided its still too clod there in winter. so as i like cornwall in summer better to stay here.
roll on november though summer starts then this year i think.

that sounds ideal.. certainly something to think about! I've got to be back in the UK for the beginning of september to start work. ah work... to fund further travelling. I've always had an idea that I could travel around the world cutting hair.. maybe plan to leave January.
yes cornwall (or anywhere in England usually) is lovely in the summer. cream teas and cucumber sarnies haha!
so, I'm off to Quiberon, I thought about going further south but Brittany coast was the original plan so I'm sticking to it. I've noted some campsites where there maybe camp staff needing a haircut.... gotta start somewhere! the thought of a winter in the UK seems daunting.
My daughter has had to get a new battery for the VW , so took it out herself, which impressed the lads at the breakers when she went to replace it! Put it back in and it still wouldn't start, our VW mechanic came out and twiddled with the fuse and hey presto!! off she goes haha!!!

hi. if the vw keeps having bad starting .there is a bronze bush in the bell housing where the starter fits . the starter needfs removing and a 12mm tap winding in to remove the bush. .dont do it till you have a new bush. gently tap it in with a nut and bolt as a drift. replace starter . its a kind of common thing ,it happens .
you turn key it just goes click.
oh well if your down this way i,m not far from plymouth .
its a bit like winter today rainy . wish i was over there .ha ha cheers alan.
my mate used to have a vw shop in gloucester .volksbits ,opposite the match factory.

i thought la baule area was best.
i do like pornic , we used to go there and out to a hotel at pointe de st gildas .nice parking and if you drank in the hotel you could use the swimming pool. they had a teenage girl that used to get tickets for the local disco .my lads used to disappear with her and her mates .
but pornic as the sun goes down is so nnnniccce
