In the travelling community, both Gypsy and Fairground, no one ever refers to Rats as "Rats" but always "Long Tails".

Has anyone else heard of this, or is it just local to here??

We were on holiday in the isle of man a few years ago. They call them Long tails too. They say that the long tails pull the fairy coaches.

The travellers that I've met ALWAYS use the term "long-tails", and never refer to them as rats.

They strongly believe that if someone says the word "rat", especially inside their homes, it would bring very bad fortune.

I don't know the story behind it, but I know that they take it very seriously.
