if you can afford it try a silly cash or offer , with no part exchange they might do a deal.

Hi Jak

Just my thought...

what didn't you like about the VW? Was it too small?

Just a couple to throw in the mix... this is the same as my old van... but automatic, a bit bigger than the vw and a fantastic layou, I loved mine, but not massive...
automatic autohomes frontier ford transit 2.0 petrol lez compliant 10 months mot | eBay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/automatic-autohomes-frontier-ford-transit-2-0-petrol-lez-compliant-10-months-mot-/251350173063?pt=UK_Campers_Caravans_Motorhomes&hash=item3a85a34587)

And this is like my new one and also Marie and Neils, though ours are on Ford van, but i don't think you can beat the layout, and still only about 17 foot or less so fits in normal parking space,, but seems MASSIVE!

I would worry about doing a home conversion of you have limited time and money, did a few in the past with my ex and always seemed to be hidden problems and extra expense. Though if you need to also use it as a works van thats another ball game. You need to think about it alot , i have had vans with just a mattress and some boxes ... and its gets very chaotic, you soon long for cupboards and to be able to find what you just put down! What ever you decide have fun deciding! :)

It looks a great start for a conversion, Jac.

I can't help thinking it is overpriced for an 05 plate though.

For example I bought a 56 plate Movano, 4 years back now for about the same money, and that had less... 65,000 on it. That one looks as though it is begging for an offer. I would start low. Try 3,500 or 3,800 or something. I have bought vans before and they will negotiate on the VAT for a cash offer.

I would have thought that buying a ready converted van, done by professionals who have the design experience to get the best out of the space available, has got to be a better bet, with a shorter timeframe, than a DIY exercise.

If the budget is 5000 then what about:

Ford TRANSIT Camper Conversion 2 Berth Motorhome | eBay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-TRANSIT-Camper-Conversion-2-Berth-Motorhome/261153871838?_trksid=p2047675.m2109&_trkparms=aid%3D555003%26algo%3DPW.CAT%26ao%3D2%26 asc%3D29%26meid%3D1833614121622411098%26pid%3D1000 10%26prg%3D1013%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D15%26sd%3D3212227 39149%26)

I suspect that if you start a conversion, the costs will keep on rising, and it will drain your funds, at which point you have to start leaving out things you want.

If your budget is XXXX then spend that on something ready done, and then you can fiddle with the cosmetics at minimal cost as you go along. That way you can be off wild camping asap rather than spending all your leisure time trying to build your dream.

When I bought my Hymer, I started from the point of deciding how much I could afford to invest in my dream of travelling southern Europe in the winters. Having decided how much I could afford, I then set out to buy the best equipped MH I could find for the money. My initial dream of a 3/4 year old MH turned in to a 15 year old Lady who is currently sitting in Cacares in Spain.

Apart from a new Alpine stereo unit to give me hands free mobile use as I am on my own, I have spent nothing on the Hymer itself (apart from a service/MOT) before I left the UK. I did spend a fair bit on "stuff" to equip the Hymer like a new mattress, bedding, cutlery and a bloody useless microwave which I am desperately hoping to give away!!! All the things I bought thinking they were essential were down to my inexperience and stupidity!! but the basic vehicle needs no improving in any way.

Have fun, and save yourself a lot of hassle and heartache!!

Looks ok to me, I've been looking too as I'm thinking of doing a similar thing. I nearly did last year but bottled it and bought my Autohome. I've now decided to be brave, sell both the van and my car and buy a van I can use for work and camping/campervanning. It will be interesting to compare ideas! I'd like a large rear storage area for work stuff during the week and a bike or scooter when away, big ideas! lol

I've noticed Transits seem to be more to buy that the ducato, master, boxer and movano's. I'm not sure what to go for yet. Still mulling it over. I like the crafter/sprinters but I think they might be a bit big for daily use!

Referring to OP above, I would say this van is already partly on it's way towards a conversion. Blacked out windows, ones that appears to open on side sliding door?

Plenty lights already fixed to internal roof.

Internally, it also appears to be part covered with a material, from above windows, to inside of roof. Below windows, appears to be clad, too?

There appears to be some kind of vent to ceiling also?

Not a lot of seats to remove either, which could be sold on?

Cage for dog ;)

Get someone to make an offer, test the water!!

Ps, I forgot to add the balcony and towball at rear :-)

LOL Terry you what my haggling skills are shocking...this is the girl who want to buy the big issue and the fella said to me a 1.00 not enough you need to give me more ...instead of telling him to jog on, I said to him 'oh how much more ?? :lol-053:

He needs 25p more to just break even on the deal. Big Issue sellers buy the magazine for 1.25 and sell it for 2.50 these days

herbenny going to start a new enquiry here if yoou can stretch to the trannie and it ok now doubt the forum willbe able to help out with bit of scrap or offcuts left from there own project and would be more than willing to donate it to a good cause for the van even if it just a small piece of vere board enough to make up one side of a cupboard oor just a short piece of 3x 2 to make up a bed frame or even half dozen screws or just a odd fixing or any thing that they think you might need i start off i got a screw loose you welcome to that lol

Fingers crossed its not sold although there are others out there, I'm hoping to at least have a van to throw a mattress in for the Radwell Halloween Meet :dog: This one may need alot of curtains! Saves fitting windows though as they are already there!

I am still bloody petrified that a self build is the wrong move, but we will never know if we don't try ;)

Thats my thought, until I have a go I won't know. I'm quite excited about it now I've made the decision to go for it!

Done many trips in vans with mattress or roll mats and camping cooker. Don't need a MH to have fun.
I had a big box I strapped down to the tie down points to chuck things. Stopped them hitting the back of me head. lol

It's easy. Just smile, be friendly, say your maximum price and ensure the cash deposit is visible in your hand. If they don't haggle, walk away - and hope they call you back before you reach the gate!

With the exception of supermarkets, I don't think I've paid full price for anything in a shop for at least the last 20 years!

if you need a few tips on haggling, take a look at Pawn Stars-people go in their shop to sell stuff, asking say $3000 and are offered $400,then because the shop guys let them raise it to $425,go away happy ! I love to haggle-every pound I save is a quid in MY pocket, well worth practising !

I have on old Hymer 544 28 years old, bought it for 5,000 and have had no problems . Only change the engine and gearbox oil regularly and all will be ok. The old diesel engines are bomb proof and just go on forever and starts at the first turn of the key. Just scout ebay and other places for one as they have hot water heating blow air heating and a thick floor with the water tank inside .
