We stayed on a nice riverside aire last year just south west of Orleans.
The town is called Beaugency andon the Loire.
You will find pictures in the Wild in France thread:cool:

If you take the N20 south from Orleans there are several places where you can stop.

There is an aire at Lamotte Beuvron (pleasant we stayed there a month ago -but water turned off) as well as at Nouan le Fuzelier by the station (not a good overnight as it is close to both road and railway). There is also a sign pointing to an aire on the east side of the N20 but havent discovered that one.

If going south on the N20 just north of Vierzon before you go under the motorway there is also an aire at a crafts centre (Maison de something)

Have parked at Salbris by river: also there are several other parking places where you could overnight in the various towns along the route.

Also a couple of years ago stopped on the north bank of the Loire just to the east some 2.5km from the centre.

Note Orleans is not the easiest city to cross north to south -the main alternative is the autoroute. If following the N20 through the city there are a couple of dangerous points where traffic entering the dual carriageway has priority.

To be quite honest, we very rarely set our sights on any particular aire as we find that we usually fall over them everywhere and when we cant, we just go into a small village and find the car park:cool:

Near Orleans you can spend a quiet night in Checy.

Here :

N47 53 20.1 E2 01 38.8

It is along the canal d'orleans and maybe 500 meter from the Loire.
There was a nice parking along the canal at the old bridge, which is now unfortunately closed, but there is still plenty of place to park.

Checy is very inviting for an evening walk and it is rare that, during winter months, you still see somebody on the streets after 10.00 PM -

Nice find Roger,
I'll put it in the previous list and then on the right place in 'France'
