It must be the season for it. Left home to do some shopping earlier today, got about half a mile when without any warning the front nearside wheel locked up, turns out the bearings are literally welded to the stub axle and the off side isn't far behind. There's also nothing left of the brake pads and both discs are badly worn, so the shopping list has had to be changed slightly,

STUB AXLE (rare as rocking horse shi*e for a 93 six-stud wheel Tranny)
WHEEL BEARINGS
BRAKE DISCS
BRAKE PADS
...ASPIRIN!

Splitty, you have my deepest sympathy ~ I know EXACTLY how you feel

Did you drive it home? ;)

It could be that I will have the same shopping list, worse case scenario. Won't know till Monday or Tuesday :(

Good luck getting it fixed, Splitty.

Not good mate! A saving grace is that it happened close to home I suppose. Good Luck with repairs.

Was there any baccy in the van when it happened?

It seems that baccy can have an adverse affect on the Transit in particular.

Sad news mate, I hope you can get it sorted OK.

HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, the van's all fixed and we're back on the road! Found a good second-hand stub axle locally this morning for 35, then myself and our son Grant fitted it, along with new bearings, brake discs and pads. We got soaked a few times by the showers but still managed to do it in four hours, so all in all I'm pretty chuffed that it all went so smoothly.

Now don't forget to check the other wheels & bearings are all OK!
