Has anyone used either? There are also dual use ones and even oscillating cooling fans, quite cheap. Plug into cigarette lighter socket.

I have a 12V 10" cooling fan, bought from Asda a few years ago, which is very good - 12V heaters are rubbish.

i used a plug in 12v fan in my discovery when the in dash fan stopped working... it did a marvelous job of clearing condensation from the windscreen.

If the heaters are rated at 60w ie 5a @ 12v the heating effect is that of a 60 watt lamp, not a lot!! even double that and it's just barely noticeable and as has been mentioned, can cook the wiring and plug.

Heaters will work off 12v but for anything worthwhile, they will take too much out of your battery. Stick to using 12v just for a cooling fan.
