Wish I had time to get down to the North East coast today with a camera - there's going to be a some stonking seas running!

The most severe tidal storms for 30 years are on their way, and the wind outside our house this morning is blowing up really hard... http://s5503.storage.proboards.com/3545503/i/JJuKMIR1qsPQdPNzleSK.gif :scared:

If you're out and about in the region up here, take it easy folks!

This will affect the coast from Northumberland to the Thames Barrier and they're planning to shut the barrier tonight to protect London from floods (more's the pity! :p :p :lol-053: )

Been awake since 3.30 am with the storm. We got new double glazing a few years ago and they came with small vents at the top, which you can have open or closed. The problem is that when there are strong winds, it howls like a Banshee around these vents (whether open or closed).

I am starting to get really stressed as I have had the builders in for weeks, half of the rooms have had the wallpaper stripped and today the heating will be off for a while as they are adding and moving radiators.

On top of that, I sent the wife off to Spain last week for a break with her cousin and she is due back today. I think there may be some doubt about that now as flights are sure to be delayed or cancelled.

Oo, Jim! :scared:

You'll be right - just batten down the hatches; you've always got the camper to hide in and keep warm if it all gets too much ;)

Cannot even do that Marie. The van is stored at a friends Farm at Lamesley so that the builders vans can use my driveway and not block the road. My front lawn is a complete mess after having skips dropped on it and wheelbarrows trundling over it.

Is it all inside work, Jim? Could be a lot worse it they're supposed to be working outside today!

You must be on the last leg now, surely? You've been trying to get it finished for months now, if I remember right.

A lawn's just a lawn, it'll recover come spring. As long as the inside is sorted for Christmas, you'll be right ;)

I didn't even make it to the car this morning, I'm now somewhere in Perthshire, fortunately, I have my name and address in my back pocket :lol-053:

Hi All
It,s a bit bleak up here in Ashington. Gales, rain and a belt of sleety snow has just blown through. Still, I,m going to be busy indoors rebuilding a mate,s bathroom. Might get out on the trail bike next week. Happy days. Jim.

How sad. Why oh why did they allow trucks to drive in that sort of weather! (I'm assuming it was the weather that caused the problem and not driver error).

I've been lucky so far, my cold frame has been damaged (what fun trying to pick up shredded glass) and a fence panel has completely re-designed one portion of the garden. Minor in comparison - and I've still got power too - though our worst is expected later on today.

Good prewarning by wildcampers. The storm is getting stronger now at eastfrisian coast, bavarians and media being in panic as usual, hehe.

And now it´s time for "Susi´s storm test".
I ordered chicken Susi outside into the garden to observe, what will happen to her within the next hours.
19069

Susi survived 2 Rottweilers, an English Bulldog, a Shi Tzu, and 6 weeks ago she resisted storm "Christian". See Christian´s work in Greetsiel in October. Luckily nobody was injured.
Sturmschaden an der grünen Zwillingsmühle in Greetsiel - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MNwoTH7NthA)

Funny to see what will happen with Susi during storm "Xaver" now.
"Xaver"....what an ugly bavarian name for a northern storm.

Good luck

Bernd

I got the Whippets out in a dry spell this morning (left the Pugs in). There are a few trees down in the Country Park I use and thousands of small branches all over the place.

The wind has eased quite a bit and blue sky is breaking out

Marie, the Kitchen extension is nearly finished and the kitchen units are going in. The wife will see a lot of progress since she left last Thursday.

I had better go and check on the van this afternoon. It is parked near some big trees but hopefully should be OK. I have left my solar panel (freestanding) out but tied it to a metal frame to stop it blowing over. I should have put my wind turbine up instead. :p

15 minutes back i heard one almighty crash and bang outside which turned out to be the neighbours Shed Roof which has just ended up in our garden !!!!

How the hell it missed our Motorhome i really do not know :scared::scared::scared:

I`ve just rung him up at work and he`s coming back because all the contents of his shed are being distributed everywhere.

His greenhouse door is also now missing, no idea where that is.

Hope you guys having the worst of the storm up north are all okay! We are lurking in Cheltenham at the moment. Strong wind and a bit of rain but not too bad here.

Apart from a bit of dustbin damage earlier it has calmed right down now with hardly a breeze.

Greenhouse and everything else outside all intact; you must be in a bad spot Wooie, are you in Lancashire?

We're pretty high up here and there are wind turbines just up the hill, but we're in a bit of a dip - it normally doesn't make any difference though! :p

Hope those at risk of flooding have evacuated in time, poor souls :(

If that is where I think it is (at the North end), let us know if there has been any permanent damage please.

-1 in Hall Austria - this bar is absolutely toasty, in fact got a slight sweat on - might have to ask the bar keep to turn the wood burner down a bit.

...... or nip back to the MH and get our shorts and t.shirts on :-)

What a dilemma .....

Still one hour before high tide and the water is lapping over the side of the harbour at Wells in Norfolk. Bungalows and chalets have been evacuated at Bacton and Walcott. Looks like it will be a bad night as the wind is forcast to remain at over 30mph till tomorrow lunchtime

Hello Maingate just been down to the beach & I can confirm Mother Nature has removed two thirds of the parking area at the north end spot on Druridge bay ! It's quite unbelievable really to see the damage caused by the sea surge from today ! I'm gonna take a walk down tomorrow in daylight & have a good look around ! The road between Amble & Warkworth was closed today & homes in Warkworth were flooded by the high tide. I see there's been a great deal of flooding on the quayside down in Newcastle today too.
