Returning home from London yesterday, I tried to programme my Garmin Sat Nav. When I got to the stage where you have to enter the town or city, it froze with 4 letters of the alphabet showing. Could not make any entries at all. Anyone have any experience or knowledge of this happening to them. Please HELP. Thank you.

These are the instructions for my nuvi 2595 - may be the same for yours:

Note: A master reset will erase all waypoints or
favourites and will
restore your unit to the default factory settings. If you
would like to
back up your favourites you can find instructions to do so
below.

1. Start with the unit OFF and unplugged from power
2. Touch
and hold the lower right corner of the screen with an
index finger or the
eraser end of a pencil
3. Continue touching and holding the lower right hand
corner of
the screen then power the unit ON *
4. Release the power button
when the device powers ON
You will see a new message: Do you really want to
erase all
user data?
5. Remove your finger from the touchscreen when this
message
displays
6. Touch Yes

* Note: Touch and hold the top right
corner of the screen if you have a
nuvi 3xx.

The device will
automatically reset. Follow the on screen prompts
then
place your device in an area with a clear view of the sky until
it
acquires satellites.

straight from garmin website

]To perform a master reset on a nuvi 2405 or 2505 series device:

Note: A master reset will erase all favorites* and will restore your device to the default factory settings. If you would like to back up your favorites you can find instructions to do so here.

Start with the device turned off and unplugged from power
Press and hold the lower right hand corner of the touchscreen
Power the nuvi on
Remove your finger when a message appears that says "Erase all user data?"
Touch Yes

The device will now be reset. Follow the on-screen prompts then place the device in an area with a clear view of the sky until it acquires satellites. This can take 15 minutes or more the first time you do this after the reset.

*Although the master reset will erase all saved favorites, any loaded custom points of interest will remain intact on the device

Could it be something simple like a low battery? I once had a similar problem with Tom Tom.I thought it was charging whilst driving but vibration had caused it to be improperly connected.

I haven't got one either but searching forums I use came up with

with the garmin off, hold down the right bottom of the screen and turn the garmin on, it will then ask you if you want to perform a hard reset. Choose yes and that should fix your problem.
and

have you tried the master reset?

plug it in to the usb port on your computer for a few hours.if that fails, then try the master reset.

note: that the master reset will erase all your saved data

with the unit off,and unplugged, try pressing and holding your finger on the low right corner of the screen and slide the power switch to the on position until you see the message "confirm if you really want to delete all user data?" hit yes and let it restart. then it will set up the nuvi again, so follow the prompts.

if that fails, hook up the nuvi to the web updater and get the latest update.

download the updater HERE (http://www8.garmin.com/support/agree.jsp?id=931)

Mine has had to be reset only once. The other times I thought it needed a reset it has come back to life with a battery charge or being left alone for a time etc. I'd try all the alternatives before doing a reset. Its amazing how you become used to the voice or other parameters you've set. Once you do the reset it seems like a whole new device.

My old Garmin does all sorts of strange things if it gets a bit damp. Kept warm and dry for half an hour seems to cure it.

Resets as above, turning on holding lower right corner.
