There are so many great places to wild in beautiful spots with superb opportunities for wildlife spotting that it is almost redundant to bother to list any specific ones-but these are some that we have recently stayed at:

1. The car park at Knockan Crag Visitors Centre - 58 01.998N 5 04.275W - sheltered, quiet, good views. No banning notices but a couple of polite notices asking camper vans to consider supporting local campsites and not to dump chemical waste in the toilets because they are not on the main sewer.

2. The picnic area at the southern edge of the bridge from Kylescu to Kylstrome - great views.

3. The car park at the Cape Wrath ferry, just south of Durness - great views again.

4. The Kyle of Tongue- just off the main A838, near the cemetery, on the western side of the causeway - 58 30.007N 4 26.959W. Great for watching sea birds and sea life.

5. Baile An Or -near Kildonan, 8 miles from Helmsdale - 58 10.059N 3 51.073W- where recreational gold panning is allowed in the Kildonan Burn.

6. Helmsdale harbour -like a metropolis after the previous stops - four other vans!

I find these kind of posts with the co-ordinates on very useful. I cross reference them with Google earth and add pins with comments to the areas.
