Spent the weekend wilding in North Yorkshire about 3 miles from Pateley Bridge, found car park come picnic site on the b6265.Colthouse carpark and picnic site on a fairly quiet road not much passing traffic, honesty box on gate entrance suggested prices are 1 for short stay 3 for long stay and picnic and 5 for a long long stay(didn't need telling twice) just the job for an overnight stop although sign on gate states no time limit so could be used for longer,31 miles from Bradford,14 miles from Ripon,18 miles from Harrogate 27 miles from Thirsk and York is 36 miles so plenty in the surrounding area. Also had a look at Scarhouse Reservoir large car park popular area for walkers but did'nt spend the night as no mobile signal(wife a bit nervy about being unable to contact people)but looks like a good overnight spot, there was a yorkshire water employee working but didn't give us a second glance.Reservoir is accessible from the road from Ramsgill to Lofthouse marked as private road to car park property of Yorkshire water, there are several pull in places en'route to reservoir with concrete picnic benchs which could also be used for overnighting.Have some pics taken with mobile phone tried to upload them via the manage attachments tab but to large to upload, anyone help:confused:Andy>

Try this, Messenger, go to www.photobucket.com, join up then upload your pics to your new album, double click on your chosen photo then click on "IMG code", resize the photo to 640 >< 480 then click on IMG code (right hand side), then open Wildcamping site, post your message and paste your pic, hope this makes sense:confused::D... Good luck;)

PS. where is the times symbol (multiply) on my keyboard?:confused::D

Hi dont know what you'r doing wrong but
what you paste in the reply box should start with
http:// and end with .jpeg
if you take off the [IMG] at each end of the paste
your picture should show

to copy from photobucket
on the laptop I tap the keypad on the actual code, not IMG
and a yellow text box appears saying copied
then i paste to the reply box
hope this helps

Overnight parking is not actually allowed at the car park site you mentioned next to Gouthwaite reservoir. Planners wouldn't allow it and I think the other (approved) sites in the area want the business!

Excellent pics, and you're right: it's a beautiful part of the world.

Over nighting not allowed here. Planners wouldn't allow it and other local approved sites want the business. Surprised you weren't "moved on"! Essentially car park is for bird watchers.

This works - just copy from http until .jpg and paste it into web browser. your picture appears. It's the one showing the honesty box (more like an old stone postbox).

What mobile server do you use? I only ask because when staying at Kettlewell for Scarecrow week on a C & C C meet. 02/BT phones no signal but Orange & Vodaphone got one.

Re the phone - If you use a satnav (we use a TomTom) if you link your phone to it, then you can use the satnav's sat. link to use your phone.

If you were travelling on the B6265 from Ripon towards Pately Bridge, go through Pately Bridge, cross the river and then you need to be looking for a turning on your right, iirc it's signposted to the reservoirs (Gouthwaite Res. and Scar House Res.). Gouthwaite Res. is the first one that you'll come to and the Colt House car park is approx. two thirds of the way along the reservoir. It easy to spot it as you drive along. O.S. Landranger map (the pink series) no.99; Northallerton and Ripon.

Just been told by Katrina that this now no good. Honest box has been stolen and boy races zooming round in their cars.

Sorry to hear that, I've stayed there a couple of times. Hopefully it'll just be a temporary problem, although with the honesty box being stolen that's likely to sicken the landowner and might put him/her off the idea of providing this parking area altogether.

Anybody know the landowner? I wonder if s/he'd accept donations toward the cost of replacing the honesty box and fitting some hefty metal straps across the front of the new one?

B-road from Pately Bridge to Grassington. (53.791321,-2.096152 on gm), would advise weekends only though, as there's a quarry next door.
(54.115829,-1.708534) is on the moor north of PB. There's an 'access only' road between here and PB - DO NOT use it in a MH, its severely tight, steep and slippery as you get into town.

I've added the second place to the database - but the coordinates for the first are wrong :(

I live on the road to Scar Reservoir, tonight there were 3 'wildies' in the car park at Ramsgill. The car park at scar reservoir is a good place to stay, but you are right, the mobile signal is non existant.
On rare occasions, the hot hatch brigade find their way up to the car park at scar, so be careful, although I have never heard of any trouble.
Try the grub at the crown at lofthouse, good honest pub-grub and well kept black sheep ale, mine host (Clive) is a true character, a one off, you will see what I mean when you meet him!!

Hi Chris
Just been to same cp today. New signage up warning of recent thiefs from vehicles on cp. Don't know if it is a problem or if they've been put up everywhere, but thought it may be useful info to some.

UPDATE... I spoke to the Landowner today, the honesty box is still in place, he checked it only yesterday. He was going to check again tonight.
