There are quite a few wild camp sites listed for Mull but are there any that are particularly recommended from members that they have used. Looking for places where I am likely to meet up with one or two fellow campers. Also a stop over point at or near Oban would be appreciated.
thanks

Calgary beach is one of the best places lovely white beach, and the toilets are open 24/7

Not too good for large vans the last time I was there, and the water in the toilets isn't potable, so take some drinking water 🚰 with you.

Agree with Mul and Winker... The B8035 about a mile west from Knock is excellent and theres usually a van or two around if you are wanting some company. Camping is also allowed at the carpark for the ferry to Ulva.
IMO the site at Calgary is overused and the toilets suffer accordingly. Access is restricted by huge boulders so large vans will have no chance of gaining access.

Mull is always worth a visit and we have always seen Golden Eagles but so far have not spooted the Sea Eagle ( we have not been on a guided tour nor a boat trip though...)

Enjoy

I agree with Loch Na Keal, lots of places to camp.

Have you looked at my ramblings on Virtual Tourist?

Thank you, it's a bit hit 'n' miss in regards to getting fresh drinking water there

One place we've stopped near Oban is Fearnoch forest, about 10 miles away, but ideal for an overnight 56.440249, -5.296723. We've stopped a few times without any issue but not since last October.

There is also a water tap on the side of the loo block at Craignure (56.470680, -5.706524) once you're on Mull - and there used to be one outside the loos at Salen (56.517529, -5.949543), but that's been moved inside now.

We went to Mull earlier this year and stayed at Lochbuie (lovely), Uisken (2.00 each to camp right next to the beach), and Calgary (really really fabulous but I bet it's busy this time of year).

I'm afraid we got water from a campsite!

Since i'm 'new' at the campervan scene, these outside taps at loos and all, are they (in general) drinking water, whats the general take?

We have used the main car park in Tobermory by the yacht club, their are showers and toilets for a small charge and a water hose pipe by the slipway, locals are very friendly and didn't have a problem last September,

All water from taps is fit for drinking unless there's a notice stating otherwise ...

Always been puzzled by this . Do they actually use a different water supply ? Surely easier to use the main water supply

yes it is a lovely spot, but the car park is closed to overnights , there is a small area for official wild camping opposite the toilets, which was mostly occupied by foreign vans when I passed recently. I walked the dog and drove on............to the Ulva ferry where there is plenty of room though not that picturesque, and Ulva is definitely worth the 6 for the ferry , beautiful coastal walk along the south side , red deer and eagle if yer lucky , Oh seals as well.
