Although I have been insured with CaravanGuard for a fair few years now I have never needed to use them until the very last day of a trip round the Outer Hebrides and Northern Scotland when we had breakdown (hole in the radiator caused by parts of the fan assembly breaking due to a stone from the road).
Our van is some 7.8m long, 3.4m high with a GVW of 5 tons. One call to CaravanGuard and everything was arranged by them - throughout the process they kept us fully informed of what was happening, who was coming and when. We must have received over 10 information calls from them. The first mechanic arrived within 1 hour ( and bear in mind that we were on a fairly remote Scottish road), identified the problem and recognised that we would need to be recovered from the roadside. It took 3 to 4 hours for the heavy recovery vehicle to arrive with an escort vehicle, but again I think this is very good given where we were.
The recovery team were excellent and loaded us very carefully with no issues at all.
For those that know the area the articulated low loader even managed to get over the infamous Gairnshiel Bridge on the Ballater to Corgarff road with the aid of the escort vehicle stopping all traffic and 3 sliding axles on the low loader - what skill.

Thanks to all concerned and I now await the report from our garage with cost estimate!!

Hopefully photos are attached of the recovery rig.

Nice to know. especially as we have been with them for over four years.
I have not found an insurance company that can better their price/cover.

Hi Tony,
seems like good people to deal with, i take it you are both insured and breakdown covered with them, i like the recovery outfit, did they not have anything smaller,:)

Yes - European and UK breakdown and recovery insurance as well as standard insurance. Not particularly cheap but they also cover the trailer I sometimes have with me.
The recovery rig was the only one available to them immediately apart from their small vehicle truck which wouldn't have taken my van. Quite an impressive rig.

Nice to hear from you folk - is Brogan being trained as a flood warden?!
Still no news from the garage so I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that it's not too big a repair.
