Fort Widley Rally by Mushmush | Photobucket (http://s1039.photobucket.com/user/Mushmush/library/Fort%20Widley%20Rally)

Hi all ,we are just home from a CCC Rally at Fort Widley on Portsdown hills overlooking Portsmouth and IOW,, Fort Widley is an old Napoleonic Fort built to protect the Solent and Portsmouth during that era, it was also a gun and searchlight base during the second world war. The rally cost 8 per night and is a great venue, buses a short walk away for Portsmouth etc. The rally field is really the roof of the fort as the area is honeycombed with tunnels and storage areas , lots of activities are held here such as a riding school, rock wall climbing and a sub aqua club, and several vans in storage too, there was a guided tour of the Fort if wanted 2 and it took 2.5 hours and was very interesting. There is a pub nearby selling Doombar and the venue is close to one of the POIs, The entrance to the venue is via a tunnel and a long slope up and it puts lots of caravanners off , so there were only 4 caravans there but 21 Motorhomes, The weather was perfect so a great weekend break was had.

Glad you enjoyed my home town. I think Portsmouth looks its best from a distance, and preferably in the dark.:D
