Actor Warren Mitchell, who played Alf Garnett in television series Till Death Us Do Part, has died aged 89.
A statement from his family said the star died in the early hours of Saturday "surrounded by his family".
"He has been in poor health for some time, but was cracking jokes to the last," the family added.
Mr Mitchell's great nephew paid tribute to him on Twitter (https://twitter.com/jerrybarnett/status/665467078879653889), saying he was "the last of his generation".

A great actor who's main regret was that there are still people who couldn't see that the role of Alf was taking the piss out of racism. He will be missed.

Yea I always thought it was funny but sadly missed the target . Great character actors , cleverly written [Johnny Speight] but right over the bar . Yes you could say lots of 'offensive' stuff then and a lot of it worked on the show . The main target was racism and it just didn't work . Think the character , Alf , became a hero of the BNP . Shame

But there was a certain amount of satisfaction in that it did show just how stupid the extreme right are - to adopt a character that was ridiculing them.
