I can see this is going to start increasing Insurance Premiums if they are that easy to steal. If you check on EBay you can get a lock pick for a Transit lock that only takes you a few seconds to use. Once inside it seems very easy to make yourself a new key and get the electronics to recognise it. Wonder why Ford have done nothing about it they must realise that they are very easy to get into.

What happens to them after they have been stolen. Suppose you just put number plates on from a real one and off you go. Anyone checking the number plate will just be told that it's a White Transit. Our last Swift log book just said its was a Fiat Ducato. No mention of the type of body shell just the engine size and weight.

Now we don't need a tax disc it must have made the whole job a lot simpler. Wonder if the idiots in HMG thought of that before they decided to save some cash.

..

Just had a browse on Google under Transit Stolen. A lot are stolen and broken up for spares by some very organised individuals.

Just as an FYI guys for those of you who are transit owners, particularly around Yorkshire.

Organised gangs fuel dramatic rise in transit van thefts in Leeds - Yorkshire Evening Post (http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/news/latest-news/top-stories/organised-gangs-fuel-dramatic-rise-in-transit-van-thefts-in-leeds-1-7198918)

Transit Van Owners Warned - Keep Your Vans Secure | West Yorkshire Police (http://www.westyorkshire.police.uk/news/transit-van-owners-warned-keep-your-vans-secure)

IN PICTURES: Eight arrested in huge stolen parts police swoop at scrapyards (From Lancashire Telegraph) (http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/news/14204993.UPDATE__Eight_arrested_in_huge_stolen_par ts_police_swoop_at_scrapyards/)

There has been a 91.2% increase in van theft across the force in the last six months. Of those thefts, over 60% are of Ford Transits of models from 2010 or more recent. Most of those Transit thefts (72.8% - or 268 thefts) are by 'unknown' means.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire police said: "There has been a continuing trend of keyless vehicle thefts since 2010, with 478 Ford Transit vans being reported stolen between January 1, 2015 and December 11, 2015 across the Yorkshire and Humber region alone, with an estimated value in excess of 7.5m.

"The theft of Ford Transit vans accounts for 40 per cent of all vehicles stolen, with the make and model being the most stolen vehicle across the UK."

As an auto locksmith i feel it's my duty to post on here regarding Ford transit based vehicles being stolen.
They are easy to steal , so i recommend anyone that has a Ford , is to install an obd diagnostic socket safe that prevents unauthorised access, secondly to change the driver's door lock to a hykee high security cylinder the reason for this is to prevent decoding the factory fitted door lock, which will be keyed the same as the ignition, it takes less than 60 seconds to decode a Ford lock .
Also install a Clifford anti hijack device, and lastly a cat 6 tracker.

And maybe a quick fit sold secure gold rated bulldog wheel clamp.

There was a gang of crooks going round Lancashire last summer who had developed a way of getting into a builders van with no visible means of entry - the police theorised it was an electronic device they were using - the thieves stole tools, then locked up nicely afterwards. the police would not enter it as a crime because there was no breaking and entering and insurers would not pay out because there was no crime number.......

I would fight the insurers is well documented that they can gain entry with no damage

We are avid walkers and park up at many isolated spots, forest CP layby etc.
What we do is to wrap a high tensile chain around the inner wheel and axle of our camper van, locked in place.
We then display a notice on the dash board stating simply!! (Wheels are Chain Locked)
We have never had a problem using this method.
We do realise you must get under the van to attach the chain but this is a small sacrifice to return to a intact van.
There are ways to beat the quick thief.
Be Aware, Keep on your guard

Do you know where it's possible to obtain a Hykee high security cylinder for a left-hand drive Ford Transit Mk7? Protectavan say that theirs will only fit right-hand drive.
