View Full Version : Annual get-together?

I`m still very new to this site but been involved in other web based clubs for years. I was wondering if there was an annual meet where as many members as possible all try to get together for the weekend. Its a big thing in my other hobby, we meet at Billing Aquadrome, Northampton and what started off as 9 or 10 members spending the day has turned into a week long event attracting thousands.

I`ve looked around the site and not found anything. Am I blind (probably) or has it not been thought of yet?

Cheers Allan, Yeah I`ve read up on the meets here and there. I was thinking more of one big en masse meet. If Hayfield is that, then you`ll see me there :)

Hi Mike, the most we have had at Hayfield I think was 19 vans. There is a meet for the Sheepdog trials 19/20th of september......The bye bye Fran and Steve w/e 4/5 september........ then the closing meet which is the last w/e in october.

Is it possible to get an official annual meet going?, maybe somewhere big like Shell Island then theres (almost) no limit to the number of WildCampers attending. It would be really cool to book the island for a weekend and turn it into one big Wildcamp village :D

How about somewhere central, that way it may attract more members? An old disused airfield or a showground perhaps?

I dont know what would be central to members but Billing Aquadrome is central to the country and has plenty of space. They give a discount for events. Theres also Newark showground and no doubt people can think of other places..

This is probably only going to happen next summer now but in my other hobby it turned out to be a highlight of the year. Everyone shows off their gear, buying, selling and bartering their spares, theres a fantastic open and friendly atmosphere, night times are spent drinking, socialising, drinking, ermm drinking and then some drinking as we socialise :)

The last few years we`ve had little competitions for best of show, worst of show etc. Various games with little trophies. We have a group that attend just to entertain us with their fire breathing and other death defying displays of bravery.

Its a family oriented event, great for making new friends and learning stuff about the hobby.

Here`s my website, click the gallery:

I know that some caravanners hold meetings like this on the old airfield at Manby but that is a bit too far east for most people I would think, Newark sounds good though, fairly central and easy to get to..is anybody else interested?

If you intend to hold a meet not on a commercial site, I believe that you will need an 'exemption certificate' issued by rural england. Although we might be able to create a club, create the necessary club rules we would still need public liability insurance which we don't have and I have no idea how much it would cost. So a commercial site for a meet is probably your best (if not only legal) option.

I am in a national club and our get togethers are held around the Oxford area for ease of access. Out of season would be better for the sites and cheaper for us to attend.

We would be interested in a meet, would be nice if there are other familys there as well. Somewhere central would be great.

Like the idea off Billing Aquadrome, Northants...

keep talking guys, watching with interest.

I wonder if we could squeeze one in this year? I agree with the commercial site thing to avoid red tape hassle. Billing Aquadrome is very well set up for events like this, they host a club meet every week, sometimes several at once.

I`ll be there with my other hobby at the end of August and it`ll cost us £15 per night (without ehu) at rally discount rate.

Hi Mike, Billing Aquadrome is well known for a place to go if you want to loose something, its full of gypsy type people. :( The last time we went some of our group lost a satellite dish and two cycles and nearly a motorhome.................................... ..So when you go,;) HANG ON TO YOUR CHOPPER.:D Bob.

janeandbob, Yeah, we`ve had similar in the past but no trouble in years. I take on whats being said, although Billing is easy for our membership to get to, it does have problems. Having stayed there twice a year for about the last ten, our event organisers (of which I`m one) have found ways to deal with said problems.

Ok, Hayfields is being nominated a lot. Any more?

I feel like the tail wagging the dog being so new to the site. Would admin like to take this idea on? Maybe a poll for time and place?

Hi All.
I appreciate that Kings Lynn is hardly the middle of the country, but I can recommend http://www.kl-cc.co.uk | Kings Lynn caravan and camping (http://www.kl-cc.co.uk/)http://www.kl-cc.co.uk | Kings Lynn caravan and camping (http://www.kl-cc.co.uk/)ďKings Lynn Caravan & Camping ParkĒ for rally in East Anglia. Iíve just come back from SBMCC rally, the site owner Paul was more than happy for those who wanted could stay on the site extra days at the same rate rally rate £7.00 + £2.00 for EHU. There was a hut to hire for £15.00 per night for when the weather turns cold and wet. Iíve never been made to feel so welcome on any site before, he couldnít do enough for us.

Cheers Big Trev.

Hiya Mike, as you probably know, we have had various modest meets over the last couple of years (very enjoyable) but we have yet to hold a full blown "Rally",maybe with your help we can move forward and get one organized:rolleyes:.
How about we all meet for the end of season get together at Hayfield and have a chat about planning a big one for next year.;):)

Still think that somewhere "Central" sounds fairer.

Isn't Haltwhistle meant to be that Central spot, and should we be meeting on an official "site"?

Edit From another site

( Billing Aquadrome is just a couple of miles down the road from me so decided to reply and get my first post over and done with!

There are many reasons that I would not spend time on this site. I have experience of visiting this site as a visitor several years ago and on a professional basis.

Reasons not to visit.

1. It is next to a noisy busy dual carriageway.
2. It is next to a sewerage treatment works, and at times stinks!
3. It is very close to a notorious area of Northampton (walking distance) so all of the little darlings tend to congregate there at the night.
4. Due to the onsite bar and couple of pubs nearby they seem to have a fair share of alcohol fuelled problems, and violence.
5. The fairground rides are good enough to attract the local youth but not really good enough if you are there on holiday.
6. Nothing really to do or picturesque in the local area.
7. They do have some crime issues, and many of the rallies that are held there have their own security!
8. Its very very large and vey impersonal.
9. It often gets very boggy and occasionally floods.

Ok I'll stop now. Go at your perill.
ps I'm not usually that negative about things. )

And there was worse!

Jon

I am a club exemption certificate holder

It is not impossible to get all of the exemptions that the Big Two hold.

Paragraph 4 allows meets up to 28 days Paragraph 6 is for 5 day rallies and Paragraph 5 is for setting up Certificated sites. In the main these are restricted to members of the particular exempted organisation only.

These exemptions last for 5 years and are renewable.

Natural England are the people who now deal with these on behalf of DEFRA. Full information about the process can be found here. Natural England - Camping certificates (http://www.naturalengland.gov.uk/ourwork/regulation/campingandcaravan/campingcertificates.aspx)

Our club hold all of them plus exemption under the Public Health Act.

The organisation needs to be a properly constituted club. It is better to also be a company limited by guarantee. Insurance is usually based on the number of members and is available. Affiliation to the organisation below makes this easy

The Association of Caravan and Camping Exempted organisations (ACCEO) have arrangements with a broker at very low cost.

I am happy to pass on any info to help get these exemptions.

From start to finish it takes about 3 months.

I would like to suggest that an Ideal date for this BIGGGGG meet would be the early May bank holiday w/e as most people are.......
Not yet on Holiday,
Straining at the leash for a break,
Weather and light is beginning to improve,
Its a long weekend.

.................................and I don't have anything planned yet:o:confused::p:rolleyes:
