This is an extract from latest Caravan Club Mag.

We have now received definitive clarification from the legal dept. of Automobile Club De France regarding speed limits for motor caravans and vehicles towing trailers and caravans in France.

The French highway code stipulates 80kph and 90kphstickers must be displayed by these vehicles. It does not say which are 80 and 90.

They say members living in France say this is being ignored by police.

They advise that as it is a legal requirement and should be observed.

Stickers are available from speedstickers.co.uk or calling 0800 988 7329 (between 10am - 2pm)

Large trucks display the 80/90 kph signs and are for 80 kph on RN roads and 90 kph on Autoroutes. Large trucks showing the dangerous goods orange plate are restricted to 80 kph on Autoroutes and 60 kph on RN roads although with ABS fitted the RN limit can increase to 70 kph.
Without checking I am sure that Motorhomes under 3500kg have the same speed limit as cars & caravans have higher than truck speed limit. Not sure if this is still the case but caravan & trailer speed limits were higher due to higher mandatory speed rated tyres fitted as standard.
It is possible that what I have posted is now out of date but that was how it was about 5 years ago.

This is being covered in another forum see- Viewing a thread - Out&About Live (http://www.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=17081&posts=10)

I think it is just a requirement for MH's over 3.5 tonnes. Have yet to see a 'normal' French MH with stickers. Some of the larger rigs that are towing have them.

If you really want to be sure of the French rules consult Détail d'un code (http://www.legifrance.gouv.fr/affichCode.do?cidTexte=LEGITEXT000006074228&dateTexte=20080505)

This sets out the law but good comprehension of French is required!!

Thanks for that, I had completely misinterpreted the French towing speed limit. As it's France I even took the 130 km/h as a guide line for others :lol-053:

Thanks again for the post.
