View Full Version : Florence Gotta bite the bullet

Having had my van broken into twice in as many days in Rome 25 years ago I vowed then never again to take a M/H to Italy.

Now I find myself within a day’s drive of beautiful Florence and the pull is irresistible,

I'm going to have to bite the bullet and pay to go on a site I think. Does anyone have any recent experience of camping sites nearby?

Keep away from Venice.

They reckon its not safe to swim the streets at night :eek:

The campsite in Florence is called "Michaelangelo" (now, there's a surprise!). It is reasonable and has stunning views down over the city but it is expensive (we were there three almost years ago and it was over £20 per night in February!

Don't be put off wildcamping in Italy - it is very easy and safe to do so over much of the country but the rule we use is the same everywhere - when visiting a city, use a campsite and public transport. As for Venice, try the carpark at the end of the road on the Lido de Jeselo. It is guarded 24 hours a day, it is right next to the Vaparetto (water boat) station (tickets around 20 euros for a three day pass - by far the cheapest way to see Venice). When we were there four years ago, the fee for the car park was 13 euros a night (way below the charge for the cheapest campsite in this area). There is a fresh water supply - and toilets too.

Happy travels.

Hi;

There is a good little sosta situated within a 1/2 hr walk of the city centre and all the attractions.
Very difficult to find without sat nav as there are no signposts, not even at the entrance!
Once you've found it though its a quiet no frills place to stay away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
The entrance looks a bit grim but good value compared to campsites in the region.

€10 p/n when we stayed in 2007.

Its located on Via Michelle Mercati
