As Galloway Forest Park has been officially unveiled as the first Dark Sky Park in the UK.

Does anyone know where one could parkup for the night?? Been on the Forestry Commission website-not very good??

Sort of planning a trip there over New Year? We'll have our Hymer by then!

Thankyou in advance

Paula

We parked there for the night last year no problem - we just asked in the visitors centre.

Otherwise - turn left as you come out of the car park and just up the road you will see a caravan site - on the other side of the road is a decent sized layby - you could stop there for the night.

The A712 between New Galloway and Newton Stewart has a number of places where we've stayed in the winter...near the Wild Goat Park was a good one...seemed appropriate for us old goats!

You'll also find some spots near Loch Ken but there may be some lights visible there. The Clatteringshaws visitor centre is in the dark zone though!

Just looked at the website and it says:

'Wild camping in the Forest Park is permitted as long as it is done responsibly and in accordance with the Scottish Outdoor Access Code.'

So there you go then ...
