Hi all,

I need an overnight stop in the Bolton area in early January. I need to be at The Awning Company Unit early on 8th January.

I have done a search but cannot find anything on this site and would be grateful for any help.

I know that I can park overnight outside the unit but I know nothing about the area.

Thanks in anticipation.

There are a few CLs & CCs within 5 or 6 miles, any good?

They're on my Tom Tom and I could give you the coordinates if they're any use.

There's a big "park" around some reservoirs just outside Horwich, the land is or was owned by the Water Authority. I've never camped there but it is a big area with a lot of places where I should imagine you could bed down for the night. If you type Anglezark or Rivington into Google Earth you can see the extent of the place.
It's a popular spot for walkers, bikers, picnic-ers and lovers though!

Is Horwich near enough to Bolton?

Thanks for the replies so far, I appreciate the swift response.

I had a look at the site you suggested Bevdrew and found another C & CC 5 van site even closer. It is open all year and can accommodate RV`s and 5th wheelers so I should have no bother getting on.

The Camping and Caravanning Club - SiteSeeker - Details - Bury - Thorn Topp (http://www.siteseeker.co.uk/aspx/details.aspx?id=109006&clearSearch=N)

I spoke to a very nice lady who told me that she has bookings all year round so it must be well run as people return there.

Unless anything better comes up, I will go with this one.

Anybody know a nymphomaniac whose Dad owns a pub?

I also found this one but it says (on C&CC listing) that its closes on 30th Sept, so I ignored it.

You live and learn.

Glad you found somewhere anyway

The area around the unit is semi rural, if you park there you should be alright, couple of pubs within walking distance, another possibility is the carpark for the Starmount fishing lodges off Browns Road, within half a mile of the Awning Co., unit. go back down to the main road, turn left take the first right and Browns Road is the first on the right, again the pub is a short walk back to the Bury Bolton Road.
Burrs Caravan Park www.burrs.org.uk/caravan is within 5 1/2 miles on the right side of Bury, traffic not bad in the mornings, it's a nice secluded spot With a real old Pub ( Brown Cow ) less than a minutes walk from the site. hope this helps.
