We have been given this press release this week It is a wonderful opportunity check out http://www.go-motorhoming.blogspot.com/ for full details and pictures.

Providing the perfect parking place

It is now even easier for motorhome owners to enjoy the sights and sounds of Bury St Edmunds after specialist parking spaces were created in the heart of the historic market town.

St Edmundsbury Borough Council has created five spaces in the Ram Meadow car park which are entirely dedicated for motorhome use. The spaces, which are extra wide and long, have been specially marked out and are only a short walk from the town’s main tourist attractions, including Moyse’s Hall Museum, the award-winning Abbey Gardens and the newly completed tower of St Edmundsbury Cathedral. An all day stay is charged at £1.20, there are no height restrictions at the site and public toilets lie close-by.

Pulled in to Bury recently cruising the Supermarket car parks for a space we were hailed by a cheerful metermaid who said "we have special parking for your M/H" and gave us directions and a little map she also said we could stay for one night for the £1.20 plenty of space near the footy ground good dog walk adjacent. Lets hope this is the start.....don't hold your breath!!!! I've sussed it the mayor is a Motorhomer.

Sounds a, hopefully, good start!

Perhaps you could inform member "Graham Hadfield" who is compiling a list of friendly MH places such as this!?

Hiya Virgil, I'm way ahead of you mate :)

St Edmondsbury Council mentioned what they were doing when I asked them for parking details back in September and the web site was updated on 29th October with the fact that the spaces were open - see http://www.************************/sfk.htm#sted.

There is also a lorry park in Bury St Edmunds that has toilets and a cafe where you can park but think there are charges for this one. It is on the last Bury exit heading East which is the Sudbury exit. From Eastbound carriageway go up sliproad, get in right hand lane, go under A14 and up to next roundabout. Turn left and lorry park is on the right, just past the Council Tip.
