Hi;

I've put together a google map of various wildcamping spots in Greece. The information is taken from our travels and also sourced from various travel blogs and websites from all over the internet.

There are absolutely no guarantees of accuracy. I think they are pretty much spot on though. ;)

If you have any other spots you'd like to share then please let me know and i'll add them to the map.

We're off again in May so hopefully i'll have a few more to add myself :)

Thanks guys, it did take a bit of typing :p :p but it's nice to know it's appreciated.

If anyone is interested I also have them as POI sets for Tomtom and Garmin. I tried attaching them below but can't get it to work  .

I could email them via PM if anyone is interested.

Cheers.

The previous pics i posted, the first being a view across the bay from a high vantage spot, but we parked on the beach,in the far distance.
The second pic on the other post is a view of the same beach from above the new houses built there, its the same beach,if you look close you will see the dirt track AND a M/H parked up,on the right of the pic is the walk or cycle ride back to the shops and resturaunts theres also an internet cafe there and a small fishing/yacht harbour.
Say Hi,if you see us,watch for the GSD though ! we are usually there 4 or 5 times a year.
If you travel a further 2 hours drive or so,you will enter Bulgaria, check out the coast there, Sozopol and towards Turkey,or call in to see us !
More pics hopefully of Greek coast near to Kavala.

Kefalonia is great. Spent a week there in Sept. 08 ....
drove from the mainland onto Lefkada, then over the mountains
to catch the short ferry ride over to Kefalonia.
Great wilding on the north end of the island.
Guess I must have had a few Rakis when I took this shot,
my halo's slipped ......

We prefered the South of the island where we stayed at Lourdas and a lovely small fishing spot called katelios, really nice, for us the only shame of it all is that everything is becoming comercialised. We have been to Kos and last year we went to Rhodes.Rhodes was a bit too comercialised for me although we did love the old town:)

Did you get my spots for along Kavala's coast ?
Do try and drive ,if your not in a hurry, alongside the sea, meaning follow the village roads that meander along this coast, there's so much to see and so many ' wildcamping ' spots, you miss loads by sticking to that darn new motorway, fast yes but you miss everything, only good if you dont want to camp on this coast, you just want to get to Bulgaria or Turkey, which is within 3 to 5 hours depending where you are.
Lovely wild beaches, many dunes, where you can pay for car parking,or find that FREE wild spot as there are loads.
Give me a wave or a chat if you see me about,a Talbot Elddis Autoquest, but watch out for the chained GSD .

Hi; quick update;

From our recent visit, I've updated quite a few entries for greater accuracy, mainly from the Peloponnese and the Mainland, and also added a few new ones including 2 good ones in Attica.

If you look at the google map, I've annotated all the new and updated entries with *pj2010* in the text to make them easier to find..

Peejay's Greece stoppovers - Google Maps (http://tinyurl.com/ya7uras)

Finally, if i've done it right, there should be an attachment below for POI's of the map in Tomtom and Garmin format.

I'd like to make this map/poi set as accurate as possible so if anyone has any new entries or accurate updates from recent travels please PM me.

Thanks and hope its of some use

Pete

There's a campsite at Kavala, although i never use them...i 'wild' and i have still to find LPG gas anywhere along the coast or inland along the coast of the Agean from the pelonopees (spelling) to Alexandropolis (and i dont care if it says it on google or any other 'internet ' doo-dah,there's none ! ) i have heard and that T*mT*m thing my mate has, states there's an LPG station in Athens, fat use that is !!! so pop into Bulgaria as every service station 'pumps it '.Turkey is next to check out as i couldn't find any on my trip to Troy...
Loads of coast to explore, many a wild site and empty, dont do August, too hot and crowded too.
Water and toilet(sort of toilet, squat and stand ,aim for hole)but a place to empty and fill water...NEA Paramos, head for small port, also 'hole in wall/bank in village on main road, midway.
Just back from another 10 dayer there, might shoot off to Istanbul next week.:)

I have "wilded" around Plakias and Almiretha (spelling?) on Crete.
I've usually found that asking at a Taverna and there isn't a problem that way

I only have the basic TT 1 but I was able to delete all of the foreign languages and most of the voices which freed up a lot of space.

I am looking to go over to Crete January 5th. Do you have any idea what ferries to catch as the websites keep saying my van is too high (I am sure it isnt its just a normal height 3m)

Also do you have any advice on an toll charges driving to Athens. I have been told they hammer you in the smaller countires Croatia, Serbia etc.

Any help or tips would be greatfully received.

One good place where to stay, at least in May - June, is near Karystos, south of the Evia island, beautiful area with several possible places.
One of them is at GPS : 37.967337, 24.384682

Curiosity : the whole peninsula was supposed to be built with villas for the Greek Army, but nothing done for several years except roads, electricity and like.

Photo of one of the possible place, near a kantina.
The van is not mine, but we were not far.

The kantina :

Another place, just for one night :
at the west end of the Korinthia Canal, so between Loutraki and Korinthos = Posidonia.
It is a parking.
GPS coordinates : 37.951357,22.961938

http://i30.servimg.com/u/f30/13/80/49/43/p6100014.jpg (http://www.servimg.com/image_preview.php?i=1333&u=13804943)

It is also possible to park at the other side of the canal, parking close to the small harbour or just few yards from it, on a sandy surface.
GPS 37.950949,22.959588

Maybe to be avoided during week ends, as the beach is close to Korinthia, and also not so far from Athina.

Situation :
on the north shore of the Korinthias Gulf and West of Galaxidi, after 2 or 3 miles in direction of Eratini, take a small road going down to the sea and the beach of Anemokampi.
Parking is on a hard and flat surface (see picture).
We experienced few trafic on the small road (it is a dead end) but there are houses that may perhaps be busy during the week end.
We were the only camper and it was very quiet.
Room for few campers as the beach is narrow and places are between the road and the sea.

Maybe the spot is to be avoided when lot of wind come from the east.

Completely different lansdcape !

This place is in the mountains, the Kissavos or Mount Ossa, in the Larissa region (Thessaly).
It is located between Pelion to the south and Olympus to the north, with its height at 1,978 metres (6,490 ft).

Our spot is at the end of the road coming from Spilia, several miles above the village.
After driving through the village (maybe tricky for big units), you go in direction of Stomio, but no indication at all, ask the greek people in the village. We didn't find a guy speaking anything else than greek but my greek was OK to understand the direction.

After roughly one mile, there is a crossroads : some dirt tracks on the left and, on the right, a beautiful and large asphalted road climbing to the Kissavos Katafigyo (refuge).
The road is beautiful, large, recent and asphalted but there may be some rocks on it.
You will as we did wonder why such a road in this place as there are only few shepherd huts and a refuge !

At the end of the road, at roughly a height of 1,600 meters, you reach the refuge, end of the road.
There is possibility for one or two campers to park. We were absolutely alone, just seing two or three pickups driving on the tracks below.
Water is available at a fountain.

Very beautiful panorama when good weather. Approx one hour to reach the summit with your feet and have a much larger view.

Nota bene :
Except if you are a bit adventurous (and we are) and not a large motorhome, do not either directly come from or go to Stomio.
We did go down from Kissavos hut to the sea, but we had to guess what dirt track to choose (do not rely on the GPS, you could go through a danger) and the 4 km are on a dirt track which is narrow (but good, for a dirt track), it is generally not possible to cross another vehicle coming in front of you.
You then have a 6 km or so of an asphalted road, not so good, sometimes steep and always very narrow as it is overgrown by the vegetation : the tree branches will scratch your van or worst if you are inattentive.
So a long descent, to be done at low speed and using the motor bake.

The Kissavos mountain hut (was closed in June) :

End of the road, just above the refuge :
