View Full Version : South Down / Ringstead Bay

Just back from a short weekend in the Weymouth area, first overnight at
http://www.wildcamping.co.uk/forums/dorset/5367-bishops-limekiln-nr-abbotsbury.html but could not appreciate the view as there was thick mist / fog.

Next night looked for the spot opposite the Ferry Bridge between Portland and the mainland http://www.wildcamping.co.uk/forums/dorset/4001-weymouth.html but could not see but maybe things have changed since Jean Claude Van Dub was there in March 2009.

Instead went to South Down viewpoint / car park east of Upton. So misty didn’t see the NT no overnighting sign! Whoops. Awoke the next morning to stunning views over Ringstead Bay and then a nice gentleman from the NT knocked on the door, at 8am on a Sunday, and said ‘you didn’t stay here overnight did you’, I didn’t like to be rude so I said no. After a walk along the coast on our way out I noticed the road leading to the site and outside the NT area has fairly wide verges in places so I support it is possible to do the sleeping bit here and the rest across the cattle grid on NT land.
