MPs, same as anyone else, have to pay for the TV license in their home.
If they have a TV License in their office, then they don't get a Free License for that premise, BUT can claim the cost of the license back. Same as any business who installs a TV in a business premise. You think while you waste time watching TV at a car dealership whilst the vehicle is getting repaired the receptionist stumped up for the license out of her own pocket?

    What exactly is the scandal?

I'm no fan of MPs or Politicians, but I am even less of a fan of using incorrect information to try and make invalid points.

It costs £154.50 for a colour TV Licence.

At the moment it is free for over 75s, after the change they will have to pay unless they are in receipt of pension credit - Pension Credit can be paid to any pensioner on a low income to top it up to £167.25 if you’re single or £255.25 if you’re a couple as that is the minimum pension.

So no, it isn't more than a weeks pension, but if it is for you, then you won't have to pay it anyway.

Off topic, but this is something that I have never understood.... the maximum current state pension is £168.40 pw and you are provided with all sorts of information on how you can make additional NI payments and extra contributions to get to that amount by the time you retire.
But ... if you are short, then actually it doesn't matter as you will get pension credits to take to near as dammit to that number - PLUS if you DO get Pension Credits (no matter how little), you then get extra advantages such as continuing free TV license (assuming things don't change further), so end up being better off than if you paid everything to get the full state pension!

So just what is the incentive to make good any shortfall in your pension if the end weekly result is the same (or actually worse!)

(This may work out different if a couple. Above is for a single person)

yup, that holiday cottage in Cornwall, or in the Lakes?

Or maybe more a bit like if you worked away from Home a lot due to your work and stayed in a company-funded apartment?

Geeze, some people just want to try and have a go for any reason whatsoever.
Maybe it should go back to government and Parliament in the 19th Century where the only people who could afford to be MPs were those of independant means and most of them were in it purely for their own financial or personal gains? NO doubt there are plenty like that still, but at least it is not overwhelmingly so.

Amazing how often you omit things that don't suit your argument or try to fob them off as irrelevant. I guess you don't understand the devil is in the detail.

I don't think the "holiday home" is funded by expenses though.
I suspect that the "2nd home" might just have to be located somewhere relatively handy to Westminster rather than Cornwall? guess must be one of those details I am ignoring?

you people do talk some crap.

I don't know if their second home is funded or not.

You mentioned, "yup, that holiday cottage in Cornwall, or in the Lakes?"

Means nothing until we know if holday homes an are expense or not.
