Some people just don't help themselves and think of the danger they are putting themselves in, how much is a set of lights?

Not to mention the trauma you will cause to the other people involved.

Here in Oxford the police normally have a purge at this time of year to encourage cyclists to have lights.

I'm glad your wife saw him and saved you from all the trauma which would of ensued.

Thanks ,truth is police here could not be arced ,my ex biz partner who used to be irish j champ tells me since the pink juro bike thingy more and more numptys are out on bikes with little or no road sense.
I also see lots of old boys in flat caps stager home from pubs on unlit country rds all dressed in black.
Truth is time police stoped and charged folk for this,i also think its time reflective over shoulder/belt or arm bands were made compulsory in bad weather or at lighting up time, many lives could be saved.

I can see where you're coming from but as it stands we can't seem to get them to have lights on their bikes so trying to get any more is probably fruitless.
Having said all this around where I live it's more the minority that don't have lights and wear dark clothes but that said it tends to be the youngsters, obviously Oxford is full of students but in the village where I live it still tends to be the youngsters.

I can't see anything changing in the near future mainly due to the lack of will from the community.

Very sad Alf. That's 2 families in a hell of a state tonight.
At any given moment, the urge to sing "The Lion sleeps tonight" is only a whim away.

The layby at the Devils Staircase is right on the edge of the road and the vehicles pass at high speed and some of the West Highland Way walkers walk on the road just before the Staircase.
