Isn't this quite early for them? And not to be alarmist but they can kill your dog.

It is early but a few years ago we saw them in France in January, lovely little coastal town and the were crawling on the pavement, keep your dog on a lead and don't let them sniff anything, we do get them in the UK but later in the Spring

    Seen in Brittany

Walking our dogs last evening, found lots of the little b*****ds. We live near Redon in South Brittany, haven't come across them this early before. A friend said she had had to take her cat to the vet on 1st December after having had contact with the caterpillars.

Quite a lot around Aguilas in Spain. Not on the floor yet but are active and feeding in the trees through daytime.

So any dog should be kept from under the trees as hairs do drop onto the floor.

Many councils do have eradication programmes around populated areas, so far we have never seen any over a good few years
