Got back a couple of days ago Had a great time and to a large extent the weather gods smiled on us. Used the Haven Park for the first five nights (£30 inc ehu). We took the 400 Honda with us to get about and cover the area. We went up to Glasgow for a look around and came back down the cost road with great views.

Then around Loch Doon watching Osrpeys on the nest from the Roundhouse Café. Well worth going, a lovely area for anyone near.

We went to The Observatory - Scottish Dark Sky ObservatoryScottish Dark Sky Observatory now this really is a lottery as to what you will see due to cloud cover. The road up is a dirt road quite rough and steep in places. The last bend took us 3 attempts to get up and around in the van. To be honest we were disappointed with what you could see even with the main telescope. I've no doubt the moon would have looked impressive had there been one out. Its not one I would recommend.

Moved on then to Moffat, a nice busy little town with great surrounding roads and scenery. We came across a AA box, less than 20 left some of which are listed buildings. A walk up to the Grey Mares tail Grey Mare’s Tail | National Trust for Scotland which would have been impossible to do last year, but now doable thanks to the new hip.

We wilded along the beach road at Ayr l. In a heat wave a few years ago. Must’ve been hot as I went in the water. Had to prune the hair off our springer as he doesn’t like the heat… Fortunately it was windy and the hair blew away. Also overnighted at greymeres tail. A lovely peaceful spot. 💖 Scotland

Pleased you were able to do the grey mares tail one of my favourite hills, did you drive another 5 miles towards Selkirk to st Marys Loch. A great wee carpark, and loads of good walks. Thanks for all of your info and photos, pleased you had a good time up here.
If we all agreed there would be no discussion, and it would be a dull boring world.

Followed the coastal route from Dumfries via Ayr for the first time this month as in the past have headed to the Highlands via inland routes. Loved it, first time visiting Ayr although didnt sleep over. Was pleasantly surprised compared to similar English and Welsh traditional seaside resorts like Morecambe or Rhyll will give the esplanade a try for a night sometime.

Yes we rode up to Selkirk then across to Peebles and worked our way back down to Moffat. The AA box is half way around St Marys Loch its a very popular road for bikers it seems and understandably so. Its certainly a area we will go back to.

Yes on the Sunday morning we did the walk to hopehouse. On our return there were about ten bikers at the cafe on the main road next to the carpark. The carpark has signage about no overnight parking, but we were assured by the owner that there would be no problem staying the night. There was also a vw camper there that night. Must look out for the aa box, we did not walk around the Loch.
