Hand painted our old Autosleeper Legend over the last few weeks and now need the sticky decals that go round the middle and around the roof top.

I understand they're called 'decals' and wondered if anybody knew where to get plain strips at a decent price?

It's just a kind of sticky tape I suppose, in various widths and colours. Neil says he wants a charcoal grey colour or black.
Would be 75mm width for round the roof and a thinner strip, maybe half centimetre or less, for round the middle.

Any ideas? I've looked on eBay but it's a bit confusing, and the thicker rolls of tape seem pricey to me (but then I'm a bit of a skinflint!)

If you want non specific decals, try a custom shop, where the chavs go with their 'hot hatches',Halfords sometimes have a limited range. If you want your own design try a vehicle graphics specialist.

Decals

look for your nearest Sign Shop or Graphic Design Shop there are plenty of smaller sizes on ebay

What did you paint it with ? How was the finish any pics appreciated before and after

It was light brown and white.

I painted it pale green and white. Tekaloid paint, using small foam rollers and paint brushes.
It's a sh*t job, both in execution and finish ;) but it looks slightly better than it did before ... and even better from a distance! :lol-049::D
Never painted a vehicle before. Did it outside during the good weather over the last month. Masking off was the worst part. Painting it wasn't much better! ;)
Tried my best at 'laying off' (found a vid on YouTube that shows you how), but was difficult at times. The sun coming out at the worst times didn't help!
When it came to the second coat I was on a tight time limit for getting it finished, so ended up rollering the paint with hardly any 'laying off' with a brush.

If I had to do another one it would be better than this job. As with everything, you get better with a bit of practice :)

Wasn't worth spending a fortune on doing the old girl up. It's 26 years old with not much cash value in it, except for breaking, and probably a limited amount of life left in the chassis.

I will try and put some pics up later.

i found rustoleum paint a lot better than tecaloid have used both over the years . best with mohair glossing roller and no laying off .:cool:STAN

Search ebay for vinyl lettering and graphics. Should be MUCH cheaper than local 'specialists' who, in my experience of getting quotes, only specialise in ripping off their customers.

After pics - can't find before, think Neil's got them

You can see how crap the paintwork is on the following bit - this is where the decal tape needs to go at top of van.
Not all the paintwork is as bad as this wee bit, I hasten to add! ;)

The streaks on the white paintwork on the side of the van are not part of the paintwork!

It's where it's rained/been damp and the mucky water has run down. Just needs a wash again ;)

Hi Marie,
You should try this company, it's in your neck o the woods somewhere, "Lightning Signs 01833 640 331" it was on e-bay when i got them for mine,
i think they will get them to your correct size also if i mind right,,,John

why don't you mask up the stripes and paint them with a pad ? i'm tight and that's what i'd do !

I have just ordered a hippy print, Banksy Grim Reaper with yellow smiley face. Not very big but can go on the back of the van.
